Anthorn <──(35 to 50 mins by road)───────┘
The Solway Marathon starts and finishes in Anthorn, a village with a social club and not much else, so the day after is a day for finding somewhere with seats. Carlisle is the nearest place that has them in quantity.
June in Carlisle is mild, with a typical daytime high around 18°C and rain on eleven or twelve days of the month. Sunrise is at about 04:36 and sunset near 21:44 in early June, so the light is no constraint. A wet Monday simply moves you indoors.
Book the road transfer before you leave Anthorn, and book the return as well as the outward leg. Allow 35 to 50 minutes each way as a broad planning figure, not a timed journey. The Sunday 93S bus does not run on a Monday.
Carlisle Cathedral
The cathedral opens on weekdays from 07:30 to 18:30, subject to services and events, so a Monday visit sits comfortably inside the hours. Much of the building has ramps or lifts, though some floors are uneven and the towers involve stairs. Skip the towers after a marathon and walk the main spaces slowly. There are plenty of places to sit.
The rest of the day
Carlisle's centre is compact, and you can stop whenever the legs say so. Choose one seated meal in the middle of the day and keep any further walking short. If you are travelling onward by train, the station is the natural place to finish, and Northern runs services to Newcastle in around an hour and a half.
Return by the same road transfer, and agree the pickup time before you set off. A late finish to a Monday is a poor reason to be standing outside a station waiting for a taxi that was never booked.
