After the Bath & Bristol Railway Marathon: One Extra Night in Bath

The Route: Green Park, Bath (no travel required) Logistics: Everything is within easy walking distance of the start and finish. Marathon Month: October Duration: Day trip

Green Park ──(short walk)──> Roman Baths / Bath Abbey / Royal Crescent / Thermae Bath Spa

The marathon itself runs out along the Bristol & Bath Railway Path and back, so central Bath is left largely unexplored on race day. Staying an extra night and covering the city on foot the day after is the lowest-effort way to see it properly. October in Bath: cool and often wet, but the city's main attractions are almost entirely indoors or under cover, making weather a minor concern.

The Roman Baths and Bath Abbey

The Roman Baths, Bath's flagship Roman site, sit right in the city centre, a short walk from Green Park, and require minimal walking once inside. Bath Abbey, immediately next door, adds a second, brief stop without needing to travel further. Both are well suited to a low-effort day after 42.2 km, since neither demands sustained walking or standing.

Thermae Bath Spa and the Royal Crescent

Thermae Bath Spa, with its rooftop pool fed by the city's natural thermal waters, is a genuinely practical recovery option rather than just a tourist attraction, a soak that suits legs still tired from the marathon far better than a long walking tour. The Royal Crescent and The Circus, Bath's best-known Georgian architecture, offer a flat, short walk if energy allows, best done at whatever pace the day calls for.

Where to eat: Green Park Station itself, the repurposed railway building that doubles as the race's start and finish, houses food and drink businesses worth returning to once the race is over. Central Bath more broadly offers a wide spread of restaurants within walking distance of most accommodation.

Getting Back

No return journey is needed; this itinerary stays entirely within Bath, using the same base as race weekend itself.
