Titanic Belfast tells the story of a ship built in the city's own shipyards, and the surrounding Maritime Mile is flat, waterfront walking, a genuinely easy day for legs still recovering from the marathon rather than a demanding sightseeing effort. May in Belfast: long daylight hours and generally mild conditions make an unhurried day along the water a comfortable option regardless of exact temperature.

Titanic Belfast

Titanic Belfast, a purpose-built museum on the site of the original Harland & Wolff shipyard, covers the ship's construction, launch and sinking across several floors, with interactive exhibits that require standing and some walking but no sustained effort. The building itself, angular and clad in aluminium shards meant to evoke the ship's hull, is a landmark in its own right, visible across much of the surrounding Titanic Quarter.

The Maritime Mile

The Maritime Mile, a waymarked walking route along the River Lagan and Titanic Quarter waterfront, links Titanic Belfast to SS Nomadic, the last surviving White Star Line vessel, and a series of public art installations along the water. The whole route is flat and paved, making it genuinely comfortable for legs that ran 42.2 km the day before, with benches and cafés spaced along the way for anyone wanting to break the walk up.

Where to eat: The Dock Café, a donation-based café inside the Titanic Quarter, offers a low-key stop directly on the Maritime Mile. Back toward the city centre, the wider Cathedral Quarter has a much larger spread of restaurant options for a more substantial evening meal.

Getting Back

The return to the city centre retraces the same short taxi ride or flat riverside walk.
