Confins (CNF) airport
Ouro Preto sits in hills, and the streets are cobbled and steep. That is the wrong terrain for the eve of a marathon and a hard test for the days after one. The sensible approach is to travel after the race, rest on the first afternoon and keep the visits short.
June in Ouro Preto: June is the dry season in Minas Gerais, and Belo Horizonte's normals show 11.4 mm of rain, with a mean daily minimum of 15.4°C. A town in the hills can be cooler in the evenings, so bring a warm layer. The operator's travel times are ordinary estimates and not confirmed June departures.
Nights One and Two: Ouro Preto
Take the coach after the race, on Monday or Tuesday. The operator quotes a longer time for the return trip, so allow roughly three hours and do not plan to arrive on a tight schedule.
Walking is the issue. The historic centre is cobbled, with slopes that are hard on tired quads. Choose a room with manageable stairs and ask your hotel about taxi help for the steepest streets. Do one or two visits a day and sit in between. Museum and church opening days vary, and no Monday opening is promised, so check each one the day before.
Rates and availability change from season to season. Book a room in the historic centre or close to it, so the evening walk back is short.
Getting Home
Return by coach to Belo Horizonte on the third day and allow around three hours. Confins airport (CNF) is reached from Belo Horizonte by the Conexão Aeroporto coach to Álvares Cabral, about 50 minutes on the operator's ordinary estimate. Leave a generous margin before an international flight.
