After the Boka Marathon: A Night in Kotor Old Town
The Route: Finish → Kotor Old Town → Tivat or Podgorica for the flight home Logistics: Everything is within a few streets of the finish. The effort goes into the transfer afterwards. Marathon Month: December Duration: 1 night

The finish is in Kotor Old Town, so the cheapest decision of the weekend is to book a room there for the Sunday night. The race starts in Tivat, so a runner who stayed in Kotor has already made the early journey across the bay once. A night at the finish saves a second one.
December on the bay: the old paving gets slippery in rain. Pack shoes with grip for the walk back from dinner.
Sunday night
Cattaro, Marija and Astoria are the Old Town addresses that have been checked. Ask about stairs or a lift, and about a quiet room. Astoria's restaurant is at Trg od pošte and promotes krempita, a cream cake. Check Sunday hours before you rely on a table.
Monday
The Old Town is small, and the main sights fit into a slow morning. The Cathedral of Saint Tryphon was built in 1166. The town was nearly destroyed by earthquakes in 1563 and 1667, which explains why so little of what you see is older than the 17th century. The Natural and Culturo-Historical Region of Kotor was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.
The Maritime Museum is an indoor option for a wet day. Check its winter hours and whether it has steps before you go.
The city walls run for about 4.5 km above the town. Climbing them the morning after a marathon is a poor idea, so look at them from below, or save the climb for a later visit.
Getting home
Tivat airport lies about 8 km from Kotor by road. Book a taxi or transfer, because no direct bus was confirmed. If you are flying out of Podgorica instead, check how long the road takes and leave a wide margin.
