After the Boston Marathon UK: Maud Foster Mill and Boston Town
The Route: Boston town centre (no travel required) Logistics: Everything sits within a short, flat walk of most town-centre accommodation. Marathon Month: April Duration: Day trip
Boston town centre ──(short walk)──> Maud Foster Mill ──(short walk)──> St Botolph's Church
For runners not wanting to travel anywhere the day after the race, Boston's own compact centre has enough to fill a slow, low-effort day without needing a car or a long walk. April in Boston: the town runs its normal Sunday and Monday schedule, with no particular seasonal crowding to plan around.
Maud Foster Mill
Maud Foster Mill, a historic working windmill a short walk from the town centre, is a distinctive local landmark and one of the tallest working windmills in the country, worth a brief visit even for anyone not planning to go inside.
St Botolph's Church (Boston Stump)
St Botolph's Church, known locally as Boston Stump, dominates the town's skyline and is visible from miles across the flat surrounding Fenland. Its tower, one of the tallest parish church towers in England, can be climbed for a view over the town and out across the Fens on days when it is open, a genuinely rewarding payoff for very little walking to reach the base.
Where to eat: The streets immediately around Market Place and St Botolph's Church carry Boston's main concentration of cafés and pubs, all within a short, flat walk of most town-centre accommodation.
Getting Back
No return journey is needed; this itinerary stays entirely within Boston's compact town centre.
