The marathon runs along the north waterfront and ends in the city. The island's east side is reached by a short road over the hills, and Lagoa da Conceição lies in a bowl of land around a large lagoon. It has restaurants, small hotels and beaches within reach, which makes it a good base for two slow days.

August in Florianópolis: Winter. Highs near 20°C and lows near 14°C are usual, with cloud and some rain. The lagoon is calm and the ocean beaches can be breezy and cool. Bring a windproof layer for the beach and a dry change of shoes.

Ask your hotel about the current bus to the lagoon terminal, or agree a taxi fare. Timetables vary between weekdays and weekends, so check before travelling. Move on the day after the race, when roads are lighter and legs are slower.

Night one: the lagoon edge

The recovery-friendly walk is the waterside path along the lagoon. The surface is paved in places and packed earth in others, and the gradient is flat, so it suits a short evening outing. Walk until you are tired and turn back. The lagoon side has restaurants that serve seafood, and the usual order is fish with rice and a plate of shrimp. Opening hours change in winter, so confirm with your accommodation before choosing a place. Prices vary.

Day two: a short beach walk

Choose one beach and keep to the sand near the water, where it is firmer. Ask your host which beach is reachable by a short bus or taxi ride, and avoid steep dune paths while the legs are sore. A calm morning is better than a long day. Swimming is unlikely in August, and the water is cold.

For a second meal, ask your accommodation for a local recommendation rather than choosing by view alone. Winter kitchens may close one day a week.

Where to stay

Pousada e Camping Lagoa da Conceição is one named option in the district. Small pousadas and apartments are common here, and the right one has a quiet room, breakfast at a sensible hour and an easy walk to the lagoon path. Ask about late checkout and about taxi bookings for the return.

Pacing the two days

Treat the first day as recovery and the second as the outing. After a marathon, the stairs down to a beach can be harder than the sand itself, so choose a beach reached by a flat access path and ask the accommodation which ones suit. Short walks of twenty to thirty minutes, spread through the day, work better than one long outing.

Pack a windproof layer, a light waterproof, a spare pair of shoes and sun cream, since winter sun on the water is stronger than it feels. The district has plenty of places to eat, and the best habit is to book a table early in the evening, when kitchens are quieter, and be in bed at a sensible hour. If a bus ride is planned, check the last return service before you set out, and keep taxi details saved on your phone.

Winter kitchens in the district often run set lunch menus, which can be better value than an evening meal. Ask the accommodation whether they recommend a second-day lunch spot and book it, since small places fill quickly on dry weekends.

Getting Home

Florianópolis–Hercílio Luz International Airport (FLN) is about a half hour away by road in light traffic. Book a taxi through your accommodation and leave extra time on a weekday morning.
