The Diacore Gaborone Marathon is a Sunday race, so Monday afternoon is the natural time to move out. Mokolodi is close enough to the city that the transfer is short, and a game drive is done sitting down.

May in Gaborone: cool, dry winter conditions begin. Mornings and evenings are cold, so pack a fleece. Game drives in the open can feel chilly at dusk.

Night One: Mokolodi

Check in, then book a game drive for late afternoon. Drives are in a vehicle with a guide, which spares your legs. Ask about the cost and what the reserve currently offers, since activities and prices change. Dinner is usually at the reserve itself, so confirm that the restaurant is open when you book the chalet.

Where to Stay

Book through the reserve and ask what type of accommodation is available. Choose a ground-floor room if your legs object to stairs.

Getting Back

Return to Gaborone the next morning. Arrange a taxi or your own car in advance, and agree the fare before setting off. Airport transfers from the city go to Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (GBE).
