After the Galway Bay Marathon: Salthill Recovery Walk

A gentle walk along the same promenade the marathon uses, a low-effort option only worth it if the weather is kind.

After the Galway Bay Marathon: Salthill Recovery Walk

The Route: Claddagh → Salthill Promenade → Claddagh Logistics: On foot; the same stretch of promenade the marathon's four full loops cover. Marathon Month: October Duration: Day trip

Claddagh ──(on foot)──> Salthill Promenade ──(return)──> Claddagh

Legs that have just covered six laps of the same coastline don't necessarily want more walking, but a slow, unhurried stroll along Salthill promenade the day after can loosen up the same muscles without asking much of them. October in Salthill: genuinely weather-variable, so this is a plan to make on the morning itself rather than book in advance.

The Promenade

Salthill's promenade runs along Galway Bay, the same stretch used for the marathon's four full loops, now walked at an easy pace rather than raced. On a calm day the views across the bay toward the Burren are worth the walk alone; on a wet, windy day, this is better skipped in favour of an indoor option in the city.

Where to eat: Salthill has a run of cafés along the promenade itself, suited to a coffee stop partway round.

Getting Back

The walk back to the Claddagh retraces the same promenade, roughly the same distance as the outward leg.
