After the Maratona Internacional do Paraná: A Slow Monday in Guaratuba

The Route: Guaratuba hotel → Praia Central → Praça Coronel Alexandre da Silva Mafra → Casarão do Porto → lunch → hotel Logistics: Short taxi rides between stops. Nothing here needs a car for the day or a booking beyond lunch. Marathon Month: March Duration: Day trip

Guaratuba hotel ──(taxi)──> Praia Central promenade ──(taxi)──> Praça Coronel Alexandre da Silva Mafra
──(short walk)──> Casarão do Porto and Casa da Cultura ──(taxi)──> lunch ──(taxi)──> hotel

The marathon crosses the bay on a bridge that opened in 2026, and the morning after it you will probably prefer to look at it from a bench. This is a day for that. Guaratuba is small enough that nothing is far, and the sensible plan is to move in short hops with a long sit between each.

March in Guaratuba is warm and wet. A 30-year climatology gives a mean low of 22°C, a mean high of 27°C and about 218 mm of rain over the month. Plan the outdoor stops for the morning and keep the museum and lunch for the hours when a shower is likeliest. The festival falls on Easter weekend, so Monday may be a public holiday in practice, with busy roads and some opening hours changed.

The morning: Praia Central

The municipal tourism office describes the Praia Central as an urban waterfront with benches, kiosks and services. Take a taxi to the promenade and walk a short out-and-back from wherever it drops you. A flat pavement is the kindest surface your legs will meet all week. You do not need to swim or to walk the full length of the beach, and stairs down to the sand are best left alone for a day.

Late morning: the square and the old house

Praça Coronel Alexandre da Silva Mafra sits in the centre, on Avenida 29 de Abril at Rua Monsenhor Lamartine, with benches and lighting. Sit. Then walk or take a short taxi to the Casarão do Porto and Casa da Cultura on Rua Coronel Afonso Botelho de Souza, where the municipal inventory lists objects and images of Guaratuba. Ordinary hours are 08:00 to 18:00 on weekdays and 12:00 to 18:00 at weekends, and holiday hours may differ, so ring ahead.

The Praça dos Namorados is on the same street, with benches and a protective railing, and makes a natural pause between the museum and lunch.

The Morro do Cristo viewpoint is the obvious thing to climb. The municipality has announced that access is closed for works, so do not plan around it. Check the notice again nearer the date.

Where to eat

Restaurante Avenida, at Avenida Visconde do Rio Branco 878, is listed by the tourism office with weekend lunch from 11:00 to 16:00. O Siri Cascudo, at Avenida Curitiba 101, is listed with weekend hours of 11:15 to 15:00. Restaurante Convés, in the Hotel VillaReal Caieiras on Avenida Atlântica 400, lists lunch from 12:00 to 15:00 and dinner from 19:00 to 23:00 and takes non-guests. Ring each for Easter Monday hours and book if you are in a group.

Where to stay

Stay in the hotel you used for the race. Hotel VillaReal Charme on Avenida Curitiba and Kaakupê Praia Hotel on Avenida Visconde do Rio Branco are both on the main axes of town. Ask for a late checkout when you book, because a Monday spent walking slowly is easier with somewhere to leave the bags.

Getting home

Curitiba's Afonso Pena airport (CWB) is in São José dos Pinhais, and the road from Guaratuba takes two to three hours depending on traffic. After Easter, allow generously and leave the airport leg to a pre-booked transfer.
