After the Innsbruck Alpine Marathon: Innsbruck

The Route: Landestheater finish → your hotel → the old town → Nordkette (cable car) → Innsbruck Logistics: One base, no luggage moves. Hours below are ordinary operator schedules. Marathon Month: May Duration: 3 nights

Landestheater finish ──> Hotel ──> Old town ──> Altstadt cable-car station

The K42 finishes at the Landestheater forecourt on Rennweg, so your hotel is probably already nearby. For three nights it is worth not moving at all. The festival carries on until Sunday, which gives you something to watch while your quadriceps recover.

May in Innsbruck: the Innsbruck-Flugplatz normal for May is a mean daily maximum of 20.2°C and a minimum of 8.2°C, with 85.9 mm of rain across the month (1991 to 2020). The mountains above the city are colder.

Thursday night

Eat close to your hotel. Stiftskeller at Stiftgasse 1 lists daily opening from 10:00 to 23:00, including holidays, with warm food from 11:00 to 22:00. Gasthaus Goldenes Dachl at Hofgasse 1 opens daily from 11:00 to 23:00, with hot food from 11:30 to 21:30. Both are in the old town, and neither promises a finisher table, so book if you are in a group.

Friday: the old town

Walk slowly. The Museum Goldenes Dachl at Herzog-Friedrich-Straße 15 is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00 from May to September. It is a short visit, and a good first outing. Check ticket prices and access before you go.

Saturday: the ridge, if the weather allows

The Nordkette cable cars start at the Altstadt station at Rennweg 3. The Hungerburgbahn runs from 07:15 on weekdays and 08:00 at weekends and holidays. The Seegrubenbahn runs from 08:30 and the Hafelekarbahn from 09:00, with the upper cable car stopping at 16:45. Mountain weather decides what is open, and early May can still carry snow on the higher ground, so check the operator's page on the morning. A ride keeps your legs out of it.

Spend the afternoon watching the festival or sitting down. The festival programme runs until Sunday.

Sunday or Monday: one more outing

Schloss Ambras at Schlossstraße 20 is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00. The operator lists partial accessibility, with lifts in some areas and restrictions elsewhere. Swarovski Kristallwelten in Wattens is another option, as the Wattens day trip describes.

Where to stay

Austria Trend Hotel Congress at Rennweg 12a is the organiser's named partner and sits on the same street as the finish. Hotel Das Innsbruck at Innrain 3 stores luggage. Stage 12 at Maria-Theresien-Straße 12 is on the main shopping street. ibis Innsbruck at Sterzinger Straße 1 is by the main station. Confirm availability, breakfast times and checkout for your dates.

Getting home

Innsbruck Airport bus F reaches the main station in about 20 minutes. Check the timetable and your ticket before you travel. A Welcome Card may be available with a stay of two nights or more at a partner accommodation, so ask your hotel.
