The K42 finishes in Innsbruck on a Thursday, which means Friday is the real first day of recovery. Spend it in the city, with a late breakfast and a short walk. In the afternoon, move one stop east to Hall in Tirol, a small medieval town with a single reason to stay the night: Burg Hasegg opens at ten the next morning.

May in Hall: use the Innsbruck-Flugplatz figures as a regional guide. The May normal is a mean daily maximum of 20.2°C and a minimum of 8.2°C, with 85.9 mm of rain (1991 to 2020). Pack a waterproof.

Getting there

Hall in Tirol is one of four stations in the Hall-Wattens region, alongside Thaur, Volders-Baumkirchen and Fritzens-Wattens. The regional tourism page names no line, frequency or journey time, so check the ÖBB and VVT journey planners for Friday afternoon and note the last return train on Saturday. If you stay two nights in the region, ask your hotel whether you qualify for the Guest Card, which the tourism office says gives free travel on regional buses (trains are not included).

Friday night

No hotel in Hall was verified, so choose a room in the old town on a booking site, and confirm that it has reception hours that suit an arrival after the Friday trains. Eat early, since your legs will want an early night. Check that a restaurant is open on Friday before you walk to it.

Saturday morning: Burg Hasegg and the mint

Burg Hasegg and the Münze Hall opens from April to October, Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 17:00, with last admission at 16:00. It is closed on Mondays. The operator's page did not show the address or ticket prices, so look them up before you set out. Allow a couple of hours, and check whether the museum has lifts if stairs are a problem.

Getting home

Take a regional train back to Innsbruck in the early afternoon and keep a margin before any flight. From the main station, the Innsbruck Airport bus F takes about 20 minutes.
