After the Isle of Wight Marathon: Cowes Overnight
The Route: Isle of Wight Community Club → Cowes waterfront Logistics: On foot; no further travel needed after an undulating island marathon. Marathon Month: October Duration: Day trip
Isle of Wight Community Club ──(on foot)──> Cowes waterfront
After an undulating course and, for many runners, a ferry crossing to get there in the first place, the simplest post-race plan is staying put in Cowes. Race HQ has showers, changing facilities and bag storage on site, so there's little reason to rush elsewhere. October in Cowes: a working sailing town, quieter than its regatta-season peak but still a pleasant place to sit by the water.
Cowes Waterfront
Cowes' High Street and waterfront, a short walk from Race HQ, hold a run of pubs and cafés overlooking the Solent, with views across to the mainland and the passing ferries that most runners will have arrived on themselves.
Where to eat: Cowes' waterfront pubs and cafés are the most convenient option, a short walk from the Isle of Wight Community Club.
Getting Back
Runners heading back to the mainland can catch a Red Funnel or Wightlink ferry directly from Cowes or East Cowes; those staying elsewhere on the island should plan their onward journey accordingly.
