After the Jersey Marathon: A Heritage Circuit

The Route: St Helier → local sites by bus → St Helier → Jersey Airport Logistics: One hotel in St Helier for three nights, local buses, no hire car. Marathon Month: October Duration: 3 nights

┌──> Jersey Museum / Maritime Museum (on foot)
St Helier ───────┼──> Gorey and Mont Orgueil (bus)
├──> Elizabeth Castle (tidal ferry or causeway)
└──> (optional) St Malo (DFDS, approx. 1 hr 55 mins)

Three nights is long enough to let the weather choose your order. Jersey in October is changeable, so the plan alternates indoor days and outdoor days, and nothing here needs a car.

October attractions run on end-of-season hours. The Jersey Museum and the Maritime Museum were open daily from 10:00 to 17:00 in the 2026 season, Elizabeth Castle until 24 October with the last ferry at 17:00, and Mont Orgueil until the same date. Check the 2027 calendar when the date is closer.

Day one: Monday, indoors

Stay in town. The Jersey Museum and Art Gallery is in the Weighbridge area (JE2 3NG) and the Maritime Museum and Occupation Tapestry is on New North Quay (JE2 3ND). Both are indoors and a short walk from the finish. They are a sensible Monday for legs that still remember kilometre 40. The Victorian house in the Jersey Museum has stairs, so ask about access.

Day two: Tuesday, Gorey

Take a bus to Gorey and see Mont Orgueil. It is a medieval castle on a rock above a small harbour, with plenty of stairs and uneven stone. Do the harbour first and the castle if the legs agree. Last entry is an hour before closing.

Day three: Wednesday, Elizabeth Castle

Elizabeth Castle stands on a tidal island in St Aubin's Bay. It is reached by a causeway when the tide allows or by a castle ferry, with the last ferry at 17:00 in the 2026 season. Wind and tide can change what runs, and no 2027 tide timetable was checked, so do not promise yourself a fixed time. Keep this day flexible and pick it when the forecast is good. Expect uneven ground and steps.

Day four: optional St Malo

DFDS sails between Jersey and St Malo, with an average crossing of around 1 hour 55 minutes. October 2027 sailings, check-in times, French entry documents and onward storage were not verified, so treat this as a lead and not a plan.

Where to stay: The five hotels on the race page cover this circuit, since all of them are in or close to town. The Pomme d'Or, the Royal Yacht and Liberty Wharf are the ones nearest the Weighbridge.

Where to eat: The Harbour Room at the Pomme d'Or and Café Zephyr at the Royal Yacht, plus the town centre around Charing Cross. Book dinner for the last night.

Getting to Jersey Airport (JER)

Route 15 from Liberation Station takes about 30 minutes in ordinary service, and a taxi is the paid alternative. Allow generous time, check the Sunday and holiday timetables if your flight falls on one, and keep your return flight off the same morning as any ferry day trip.
