Szczecin is the longest of the day trips from Koszalin, at about two hours each way, so it suits the Monday after the race better than the Sunday. The marathon finishes before dawn on Sunday, and a Monday outing leaves a full night of sleep in between.
October in Szczecin: the Odra is exposed, so expect wind on the terrace and along the water. Museums and castle interiors often close on Mondays, so check opening days before buying a ticket.
Wały Chrobrego
The Wały Chrobrego is the raised terrace above the river, and it is the first stop on most Szczecin days. It is a walk rather than a ticketed visit and can be done in any weather that lets you stand outside.
The Pomeranian Dukes' Castle
The Pomeranian Dukes' Castle is the second fixed point in the plan. Opening hours and prices are not given in the sources used, so confirm them before travelling.
The Odra boulevards
A walk along the boulevards by the Odra closes the day and gives a flat route back towards the station.
Getting there and back
Standard Intercity fares start at PLN 47 (about £9), though the exact price depends on the date and the fare class. Domestic tickets go on sale up to 30 days before travel, and the price moves with demand, so buy early. Check the last return train before the evening, because the journey home takes about two hours.
