Hiroshima is the longest trip here, and the only one that needs a night. The train is fast and seated, which suits legs that ran 42 km the day before.

Getting there

The fastest Nozomi Shinkansen from Kyoto to Hiroshima takes about 1 hour 36 to 41 minutes. An unreserved seat costs 10,770 yen, which is a 6,600 yen base fare plus a 4,170 yen limited express charge. A reserved seat costs 12,140 yen.

Peace Memorial Museum

The museum in Peace Memorial Park publishes December to February hours of 7:30 to 18:00, with entry closing 30 minutes before, and adult admission is 200 yen. It is closed temporarily from 15 to 20 February 2027 for exhibition changes, so it reopens on race day and a visit the next day falls outside the closure. Online reservation is required only for the 7:30 to 8:30 and 16:30 to 17:30 winter slots. Outside those times no booking is needed, though same-day purchases can take time.

Miyajima

Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima island is open year-round. From 4 January to the end of February it is open 6:30 to 17:30, and adult admission is 300 yen. No advance booking is stated.

Dinner

Okonomimura is a multi-floor building of okonomiyaki stalls near Hatchobori. It is a good place for a seated, hot meal.

Where to stay

Hotel Granvia Hiroshima is directly connected to JR Hiroshima Station, which keeps the walk short in both directions.

Getting back

Return by Shinkansen the next day.
