The marathon is run on a weekend morning in February, which leaves the day after for something gentle. Freedom Park, at 1 Hospital Road on Lagos Island, is a good candidate because most of a visit can be done sitting down.

February in Lagos: hot and humid, with a monthly mean of about 29°C at Ikeja airport. Go in the morning, drink plenty and avoid the middle of the afternoon.

The Park

The operator lists daily opening from 09:00 to 21:00, with adult entry at ₦1,000 and separate charges for some events. Check the programme before you go, as performances are not daily. Keep the circuit short, take breaks on a bench and do not promise yourself a guided tour without asking.

Lunch

Eat back at your hotel, or at a restaurant your driver recommends nearby. Book ahead if you are in a group.

Getting Back

Keep the same driver waiting, or agree a pickup time in advance. Do not count on ferries; road transfer is the dependable option. The UK FCDO advice asks visitors to allow extra time for journeys and to avoid quiet, poorly lit roads after dark, so be back well before evening.
