After the Maratona di Latina: Sabaudia and Lago di Fogliano
The Route: Latina → Lago di Fogliano → Sabaudia → Latina Logistics: A hire car is the simplest option. Local buses exist but are thin on Mondays, so check the timetable. Marathon Month: December Duration: Day trip
Latina ──(car or bus, check timetable)──> Lago di Fogliano ──> Sabaudia ──> Latina
The Maratona di Latina takes place in early December, and the coast to the south is a reasonable Monday outing. The marathon was itself held in Sabaudia from 2008 to 2015, according to the organiser's history page, so the town has a place in the race's story. Drive rather than depend on the bus, because local services run less often outside summer and the last bus back matters.
December on the coast is quiet. Beach clubs are closed, the wind can be sharp, and daylight is short. Pack a windproof layer and plan to be back before dark.
Lago di Fogliano
The lagoon is reached by car and sits close to the sea. A walk along its edge is flat and needs no hills, which suits tired legs. Take a light layer, and check the weather, since a wet day turns the paths muddy.
Sabaudia
Sabaudia is a small town by the sea, close to the Circeo headland. Its centre can be walked in an hour or two, and the flat seafront road gives a longer easy stroll. Check which cafes and restaurants are open on a Monday in winter.
Food
Fish and seafood are easy to find along the coast, though several places close out of season. Ask at the hotel for a recommendation and book a table if you want lunch.
Getting back
Return to Latina by car. If relying on a bus, check the last departure before lunch. A taxi is the fallback, but it will cost more from the coast.
