Mar del Plata <──(coach or car)────────────────┘
Miramar is a small town on the Atlantic coast, with about 12 km of sand beaches to the south of the centre. After the summer crowds leave, it is quiet, which suits a runner who wants to do very little for three days.
April in Miramar: Autumn on this coast is mild, with daytime temperatures close to those of Mar del Plata, around 19°C at the top end, and cool nights. Sea breezes make the beach feel colder than the figure. Many seasonal businesses cut their hours after the summer, so check before planning a particular meal or visit.
Arrive in the morning and settle into a hotel near the centre or the beachfront. Coaches serve the town, and a hire car makes the woodland easier to reach. Confirm timetables before booking.
Night one: arrive and walk
Walk the level streets near the centre and the seafront promenade. Surfaces are firm, and benches are frequent. Keep the first evening short, with an early dinner and a proper night's sleep.
Night two: the woodland
The Vivero Dunícola Florentino Ameghino is a planted woodland of about five square kilometres on the old dunes. Paths vary in surface, so choose a short, flat route and wear shoes with grip. Ask the hotel which entrance suits a taxi, and check opening arrangements before going.
The Museo Punta Hermengo is a small museum in the town. Check opening days and hours before planning the visit, as small museums keep limited schedules in the off season.
Night three: the beach and the dunes
A sea walk is the simplest activity, either on the promenade or on firm sand near the waterline. The Médano Blanco dune lies outside the town and is a viewpoint for a car-borne afternoon. Ask about the footing before climbing, because loose sand is hard on tired calves.
Where to sleep
Choose a hotel near the centre if restaurants matter, or near the beach if the sea matters. Ask about lifts, ground-floor rooms and late checkout when booking.
Getting back
Return to Mar del Plata by coach or car on the fourth morning. Allow a margin before any onward flight, and book the transfer the day before.
