A resort base on the Bel Ombre estate lets you rest for a full day before you go anywhere. The Chamarel outing is best on the second day, once your legs have loosened.
July in Mauritius: winter, cooler and relatively dry. The Chamarel waterfall runs at its best from December to April, so July is not peak flow. Wind is common on the south coast.
Night One
Heritage Awali is all-inclusive, and Tamassa is a resort alternative on the Coastal Road. Both are verified businesses. Ask about breakfast times and the cancellation terms for your rate, since some prepaid bookings can only be cancelled up to 30 days before arrival.
Day Two
Book a driver to Chamarel and choose the viewing platforms. The tourism authority describes a trek of about three hours to the base of the waterfall, which is far too much after a marathon. Reserve any tickets before you leave and allow for changeable weather.
Night Two
Return to the resort for a long dinner. The Heritage estate runs a free shuttle for guests, but it is not a race shuttle and does not go to Chamarel.
Getting Home
Book a transfer to SSR International Airport (MRU) and allow roughly one hour to one hour 20 minutes from the south coast. The official taxi counter is at arrivals level 0, opposite the customs exit. The airport operator's recent official fare list gave MUR 3,000 for Bel Ombre resorts, but confirm the price and any card surcharge before you travel.
