└──────────────(cable car back down)───────────────────┘
You came down into Silbertal the day before, after 1,250 m of advertised climbing, a crossing at 1,955 m and a descent that most quadriceps do not forgive. Going back up the valley side on foot is not a sensible thought on the Sunday. The Kristbergbahn, the cable car that starts in the village, does the work for you and puts you on the Kristberg in a few minutes.
June in the Montafon: the weather can swing between warm sun and cold rain in the same day. The 1971 to 2000 June normal for St. Anton, in the next valley, is a mean daily maximum of 18.1°C and a minimum of 6.2°C, with about 134 mm of rain across the month. Silbertal sits lower and will be warmer, and the Kristberg is higher and cooler. Bring a layer and a rain jacket.
Getting there
Silbertal is the finish village. The cable car leaves from the Kristbergbahn station in the village, which is also where the organiser's morning shuttle leaves for St. Anton. In 2026 the cable car ran daily from 07:45 to 18:15 between 1 May and 1 November. Check the current timetable on the Kristberg website before you set off, since seasonal times can shift. If you stayed in St. Anton for the race, you will need to return to Silbertal first; book that transfer in advance.
The day
Take the cable car up and spend the day sitting. The Panoramagasthof Kristberg is a mountain inn with rooms, open from May to October, and its kitchen served food until 18:00 in summer 2026. Order lunch on the terrace and look back across the valley towards the ridge you crossed. Check opening hours and book a table if you want a specific time.
If you want to move, walk short distances near the top station on whatever level paths the inn or the Montafon tourist office recommends. Avoid steep descents, which your legs have had enough of.
Where to stay
If you plan to sleep in Silbertal, Hotel Silbertal at Dorfstraße 2 includes breakfast and serves lunch and dinner. Hotel Hirschen at Kristbergstraße 2 is another village option. Confirm availability and breakfast times for your dates.
Getting home
Ride the cable car down before the last departure, and check the time at the top station. From Silbertal, bus 680 runs to Schruns, and ordinary buses and trains in Vorarlberg connect onwards. Check the Sunday timetable before you leave the hotel.
