Silbertal is a village that rewards a runner on the day of the race and offers little afterwards. Schruns, a short bus ride down the valley, is where the Montafon keeps its museum, its shops and its larger choice of hotels. It is also where Ernest Hemingway stayed in the 1920s, a connection the tourist office marked with a centenary in 2025. The race finishes on a Saturday, so you arrive on a Sunday.
June in Schruns: the valley is warmer than the mountains. A nearby station, St. Anton, gives a June mean daily maximum of 18.1°C and a minimum of 6.2°C (1971 to 2000), and Schruns lies lower, so expect it to feel milder. Rain can arrive at any time, and a village museum is a sensible shelter.
Getting there
Take bus 680 from Silbertal to Schruns. The bus links the two villages. Check the Sunday timetable at vmobil.at. Ordinary buses and trains within Vorarlberg are free on race day itself with the registration confirmation, but that benefit applies to the Saturday only. On the Sunday, buy a ticket.
Night one: Schruns
The centre is a short, flat walk. At Kirchplatz 15 the Montafoner Heimatmuseum shows domestic and workshop life in a historic building, with displays in the basement and on the first floor. A June 2026 tourism listing gave opening hours of 14:00 to 17:00 on Tuesday to Friday and on Sunday, and the operator's calendar closes the museum on Mondays. Check the current schedule. Expect stairs.
A statue of Hemingway stands opposite the Posthotel Taube. It is a short, flat stop and takes five minutes.
The Löwen Hotel at Silvrettastraße 8 is a verified hotel in the village, and the Posthotel Taube is another named option. Check availability and breakfast hours for your dates.
Where to eat
Brasserie Leonis, inside the Löwen Hotel, published summer 2026 hours of Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 to 22:00, with hot food until 21:00, and closed Monday and Tuesday. Confirm the current hours and book a table.
Getting home
Bus 680 returns to Silbertal, and connections lead onward by bus and train within Vorarlberg. For Innsbruck Airport, plan the bus and rail route on the oebb.at journey planner, and finish with airport bus F from Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof, which takes about 20 minutes. Check all connections the evening before.
