After the Nairobi Marathon: Two Nights in the Maasai Mara
The Route: Nairobi → Maasai Mara (2 nights) → Nairobi → Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Logistics: Book through a licensed operator that arranges transfers, park fees and your camp together. Marathon Month: October Duration: 2 nights

The race is on a Sunday, so a Monday departure gives you one rest day. The Mara is a long way from Nairobi by road, and many operators sell a short flight. Ask for the journey time and the luggage limit before you pay.
October in Kenya: the short rains begin in the second half of the year. Roads and tracks can turn muddy, so ask the operator how they handle wet weather.
Nights One and Two: The Camp
Game drives are done sitting in a vehicle, which suits tired legs. Ask for a late first drive. Ask the operator exactly what is included: park fees, meals, drinks and transfers. Do not assume a migration crossing will be visible on your dates, and do not pay for one.
Health
UK malaria guidance rates Nairobi as very low risk, but safari areas are higher. Take individual advice from a travel clinic at least eight weeks before you travel. Check the FCDO regional advice before you book.
Getting Home
Allow a generous margin between your return to Nairobi and your international flight, since small-aircraft and road schedules can slip. Fly from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO).
