After the Novi Sad Marathon: Vrdnik

The Novi Sad Marathon finishes on a Sunday afternoon, and Vrdnik offers warm water for the legs on Monday. The village lies on the slopes of Fruška Gora, about 20 km from Novi Sad.

October in Vrdnik: the pools are indoor and outdoor, so the visit works in cool weather. Check each resort's opening times and prices.

Getting there

Local bus 86 runs to Vrdnik from the main bus station at Bulevar Jaše Tomića 6. Timetables are at gspns.co.rs, and frequency is not published in the sources. A taxi or a pre-booked transfer is easier with luggage.

Nights One and Two: Vrdnik

The tourist office describes thermal water at about 32°C, used at the Termal rehabilitation hospital, which has indoor and outdoor pools. The Mövenpick Resort & Spa Fruške Terme has eight thermal pools, a spa and restaurants. The Premier Aqua hotel has a spa and a restaurant, and the Ethno Complex Vrdnička kula has an ethno restaurant, a wine cellar and bungalows beside it.

The Vrdnik Ravanica monastery stands in the village centre. Fruška Gora has 16 surviving monasteries from the 15th to the 18th centuries. Rakovac (bus 77), which was first mentioned in 1545, and Beočin (bus 78), with an 18th-century church and a notable iconostasis, can be reached from Novi Sad by local bus on a separate day. Monastery visits may need advance notice.

The village is hilly. Keep to the short flat streets in the centre on the first day.

Getting home

Take bus 86 back to Novi Sad. For Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG), the cheapest route is a bus to Novi Beograd and a train to Petrovaradin, about 1 hour 27 minutes on an aggregator estimate, and a taxi takes about 58 minutes. Leave a margin of three hours before a flight.
