After the Paphos Marathon: Larnaka

The Route: Paphos → Larnaka → Larnaca Airport Logistics: The Intercity Paphos to Larnaka to Ayia Napa corridor lists a 16:00 departure from Karavella daily. The three hours quoted covers the full corridor and not the Larnaka leg, so check the exact service before you travel. Larnaka stops include the Nicolaides building, which is not on the waterfront. Marathon Month: February Duration: 3 nights

Larnaka rewards a slow stay. The promenade at Foinikoudes is palm-lined, flat and lined with cafés, and a tired runner can cover the whole of it in short sections. The wider city has plenty to see, but nothing needs doing in a hurry.

February in Larnaka: the days are cool and often bright, and the evenings cold. National tourism mentions winter birds at the salt lake, but a sighting is a possibility and not a promise, so do not plan a long walk around it. In most years a light jacket suffices, though conditions vary.

Take a taxi from Kato Paphos to Karavella on Monday and catch the afternoon corridor bus. Check the target-date service, and arrange a taxi from the Larnaka stop to your hotel.

Nights one to three

Spend Monday resting and settle into a hotel on or near the front. Tuesday can be a short promenade circuit with café stops. Add one confirmed-open interior or a short coastal outing on Wednesday, and leave Thursday as a rest day or the journey home. If you stay a fourth night, keep Friday for departure.

Ask any hotel about winter opening, lift access and luggage storage before booking. Les Palmiers, on the Finikoudes front at Athens Avenue and Evathias Pieridou, and Sun Hall, on Athens Avenue, are both on the seafront. Militzis, at Piyiale Pasa 42, opens daily from 12:30 to 23:00 and serves halloumi-filled ravioli, giant beans and oven potatoes.

Getting to Larnaca Airport

The extension can end at Larnaca Airport (LCA) if you book your flight from there. Airport bus route 425 serves the coast, and a taxi from the centre is short. Check the winter timetable and book a taxi the night before for an early flight.
