The Route: Paphos → Limassol → Paphos Logistics: Intercity bus, about 1 hr 15 min each way, single fare €5 at the time of writing. Paphos departures start from Pervola-Karavella, not the harbour, so allow a taxi from your hotel. Marathon Month: February Duration: Day trip

The marathon ends on Sunday beside Pafos Castle, so Monday 1 March is for a day that costs your legs very little. Limassol suits it because the useful part of the city is a flat promenade, the Molos, and a bus delivers you close to it.

February in Limassol: the days are cool and bright rather than warm, and the sea breeze is sharp when you stop walking. In most years a light jacket is enough, though conditions vary and showers are possible. Check the forecast the night before.

Take a taxi from the harbour to Pervola-Karavella with your bag, because the bus does not reach Kato Paphos. The Intercity journey takes about 1 hr 15 min. Limassol stops include Saint Antonios Church and the New Port, so choose the stop nearest the part of the city you want, and do not assume the New Port is the old town. Check the live timetable at intercity-buses.com for the Monday you travel.

The Molos and lunch

The Molos is the seafront public park and promenade. It is paved and level, with benches at short intervals, so a tired runner can walk it in sections and sit between them. Skip the fortress climbing and the multi-site rush. A seated lunch in the old town, then a short second walk, is a full day.

Leave your large luggage at your Paphos hotel by arrangement, since buses do not store it and a station locker is not a safe assumption. Decide your last return bus before you leave the stop, and allow extra time for the taxi back from Karavella to the harbour.
