After the Paphos Marathon: Nicosia
The Route: Paphos → Nicosia → Paphos or onward Logistics: Intercity bus, about two hours from Pervola-Karavella to Solomou Square, with weekday and weekend departures. Carry a bag you can manage on the pavement. Marathon Month: February Duration: 2 nights
Kato Paphos hotel ──(taxi)──> Karavella ──(about 2 hr, Intercity)──> Nicosia Solomou Square ──(walk)──> Old town
Nicosia is a capital city with a wall round its middle. The old centre sits inside Venetian ramparts and is small enough to cross on foot, which is the point for a runner two days after a marathon.
February in Nicosia: the city is inland, so the nights are colder than on the coast and the days can be sunny and cool. In most years a warm layer covers the evenings, though conditions vary. Pack a thin waterproof.
Take a taxi from the harbour to Karavella and board the Intercity bus for Solomou Square. A hotel in the southern old town keeps the walk short. Confirm room access, lifts and luggage storage before you book.
Monday: arrive and eat
Travel in the morning, check in and have a seated lunch. Walk the old town in short stretches. Do not assume a museum is open on a Monday, because many close that day.
Tuesday: short walks
Spend Tuesday on the southern old town on foot. Check opening hours before heading to any museum, and pick one indoor stop. Crossing the Green Line is not part of this plan. It would be a separate choice with its own current document and operator checks.
Wednesday: onward
Take the bus back to Paphos or continue to another city, depending on your flight. Check the Wednesday departure time at the stop, and leave extra time for the taxi from Karavella to the airport or harbour. Ask your hotel about luggage storage if your checkout falls before your bus.
