After the Radenci Marathon: Lendava

The Three Hearts Marathon finishes on a Saturday, and Lendava is a Sunday night away. The town is in the far north-east, close to the borders with Hungary and Croatia.

May in Lendava: the tower looks out over vineyards, so the views are what you are paying for. Choose a clear day.

Getting there

Avtobusni Promet Murska Sobota runs buses from Radenci to Murska Sobota and on to Lendava. The aggregator estimate is about 1 hour 14 minutes in total for a fare of a few euros. Check the Sunday timetable and the last return departure.

Night One: Lendava

The Vinarium tower stands on a hilltop among vineyards near Lendava. It has nine floors and, according to press coverage, a 53.5 m height and views of Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia and Austria from a glazed top floor. A 240-step staircase leads to the top, but there is also a lift, so the climb is optional. A restaurant, a shop and an information point are on the ground floor. The tower's website shows its opening hours as calendar images, so check them before travelling. The hill needs a taxi from the town.

Getting home

Return by bus via Murska Sobota to Radenci. For an onward flight, the nearest practical airport is Graz. The train from Radenci runs through Bad Radkersburg and Spielfeld-Strass and takes about 3 hours 12 minutes on an aggregator estimate. Leave a wide margin and check the dated timetable.
