After the Runtalya Marathon: One Night in Kaleiçi
The Route: Cam Piramit → Kaleiçi → Konyaaltı beach → Antalya Airport Logistics: Short taxi rides and slow walks. Nothing on this plan needs a coach or a train. Marathon Month: April Duration: 1 night
Cam Piramit (finish) ──(taxi)──> Kaleiçi hotel (Sunday night)
│
Hadrian's Gate, harbour (Monday)
│
Konyaaltı beach ──(AntRay or taxi)──> Antalya Airport
A night in the old town is the lowest-risk way to spend the day after the marathon. The race ends at the culture park, the old town is a short ride away and the stairs are the hardest part of the plan.
April in Antalya: expect highs near 21°C and lows near 11°C, with some rain across the month (48.5 mm on average). A light waterproof is worth packing.
Sunday night
Take a taxi from the finish to Kaleiçi rather than walking. The old quarter has worn limestone paving and many steps, and the lanes are narrow enough that a taxi cannot always reach the door, so ask the hotel where the driver should stop.
Tuvana Hotel sits in Kaleiçi on Karanlık Sokak, and Puding Marina Residence is on Mermerli Sokak in the Selçuk quarter. Both are operator-listed addresses, and neither has been checked for step-free access, so ask about stairs and a lift when you book. For dinner, Seraser in Kaleiçi lists opening from 16:00 to midnight.
Monday
The Roman arch known as Hadrian's Gate is the quickest way into the old town and a natural place to start. Kaleiçi is a place for wandering without a plan, which suits legs that will not climb. Walk down towards the harbour only if you are prepared for the return climb, or take a taxi back up.
Antalya Museum has been closed for redevelopment, so do not build the morning around it. Check whether it has reopened. The old Nostalji tram was suspended at last check, so confirm before counting on it.
In the afternoon, a taxi to Konyaaltı beach gives you a flat promenade and a long pebble shore with the Beydağları mountains behind. The lower Düden waterfall is the other easy option, with the water dropping straight to the sea. Both can be done without steps if you pick your viewpoint.
Where to eat
The restaurant 7Mehmet in Atatürk Kültür Parkı opens from 11:00 to midnight and is close to the race venue, so it works as a late lunch before you leave the area. The 7Mehmet: Stories, Products and Recipes cookbook is available in print if you want to take the menu home.
Getting home
The airport operator lists AntRay and city buses. Which one suits you depends on your terminal and your hotel, so check the current route, the fare and the last departure. Arrange late check-out with your hotel and keep a taxi fare in reserve.
