The Salvador Marathon is run on a Sunday in September. Lençóis sits at the edge of the Chapada Diamantina, and the four nights below are a plan for sitting still in the right place.

September in Lençóis: no weather record for the town was used here. Salvador's September rainfall normal is 99.3 mm, and the highlands may differ, so carry a light waterproof and check the forecast.

Getting There

Guanabara sells a Salvador to Lençóis route, and the Bahia regulator lists the Rápido Federal line 145E on the same corridor. A current selling-platform example shows daytime services leaving at 08:00 and 13:00 and arriving at 14:40 and 19:40, a journey of 6 h 40 min, and an overnight service of about 6 h 10 min. Those are ordinary examples and not a 2027 frequency. Book the Lençóis town terminal and not an unfamiliar junction on the highway. Leave from the new intercity terminal at Águas Claras, opened in January 2026 and connected to the metro, and not the former station named on older pages.

Book the coach once you know your dates. A day service gets you there in daylight and leaves you able to check in properly.

Day One: The Transfer

Arrive, check in and walk to dinner. Nothing else is required. Choose a pousada in the town centre so that dinner is a few minutes on foot.

Day Two: Rest

Spend the day in town. The streets are the thing to explore, in short loops with coffee stops. Do not start a long walk on legs that raced on Sunday.

Day Three: One Agreed Outing

Book a single guided outing with an operator who has agreed the walking distance, the stairs and the surface in advance. Ask for a low-walking option, and do not accept a strenuous hike. No particular route is endorsed here as effortless, and the actual steps and distances must be confirmed with the operator.

Day Four: Flexible

Keep the day open. A slow morning, a short walk and a long lunch are the plan, with time to pack.

Where to Stay

  • Pousada Vila Serrano is rated highly by guests and set in a green garden, with a mid-range positioning.
  • Pouso da Trilha Hospedagem is central and well rated, at a lower price than most of the town's larger hotels.

Ask about breakfast times, the number of steps and luggage storage when you book.

Where to Eat

Ask your pousada for a restaurant within a few minutes of the door, and choose local dishes in the town. Check opening hours when you arrive.

Getting Home

Return on the fifth day by coach to the Águas Claras terminal, and stay a night in Salvador before an international flight. A state notice in January 2025 announced twice-weekly flights between Salvador and Lençóis, but a 2027 schedule was not found, so check availability before you plan around it. From Salvador, go to Salvador airport (SSA) with the usual margin.
