After the Maratona del Riso: Milan

The Route: Santhià → Milan Centrale → Milan Malpensa (MXP) or Linate (LIN) Logistics: A regional train, possibly with a change. Check each timetable. Marathon Month: May Duration: 2 nights

Santhià ──(regional train, check timetable)──> Milan Centrale ──(airport train or bus)──> MXP or LIN

The Maratona del Riso finishes in Santhià, on the railway between Turin and Milan, so Milan is reachable without going back to a hub. Check the timetable for the day, because services around a holiday can change.

May in Milan is mild and often sunny, with occasional rain. Book a room early, since the city is busy in spring.

Nights one and two: Milan

The centre is flat. The Duomo square, the Galleria and the streets around them are a short walk. The Duomo's roof is reached by stairs or a lift, and the lift is the better choice on stiff legs. Book timed tickets for the main sights, and check opening days.

Choose one museum and leave the rest for another trip.

Where to stay

Stay near Milano Centrale or the flat central districts, so the airport link is short. Book a refundable room.

Food

Milan restaurants fill early in the evening. Ask the hotel for recommendations and book a table.

Getting Home

Milan Malpensa (MXP) is reached by an airport train or bus from the centre, and Linate (LIN) by city bus or taxi. Check which airport your flight uses, and the first departures for an early flight.
