The marathon ends on a Sunday in early October, and the castle at Pszczyna is shut on Mondays, which settles the day. Go on Tuesday or later in the week. After 42 kilometres the case for Pszczyna is simple: the town is a short direct train from Katowice, and everything worth seeing sits in or beside a flat park.

October in Pszczyna: the park is in autumn colour, mornings are cool, and the castle opens late on Tuesdays, so a coat and shoes that cope with wet leaves are enough.

Direct trains from Katowice run on the Intercity network, including services named Batory, Korfanty, Pilecki and Hutnik, and the faster EIC and Pendolino trains. Journey times on one timetable page ran from 35 to 42 minutes. Fares in the same listing started at PLN 19 on an Intercity train and rose to PLN 70 or more on the faster trains. The same page listed seven departures on its sample day, the first at 10:15, so the early morning may be thin. Check the dated timetable for the Tuesday before choosing the day.

The castle

The castle is the main event. In September to November it opens Tuesday 10:00 to 15:00 (last entry 14:00), Wednesday to Friday 9:00 to 16:00 (last entry 15:00), and Saturday and Sunday 10:00 to 17:00 (last entry 16:00). On Tuesday the window is the shortest, so aim for the first entry.

The main route through the nineteenth and twentieth-century interiors takes about 80 minutes and cost PLN 50 (PLN 30 reduced) in the 2026 price list. Smaller routes cover the Armoury at PLN 15, the Portrait Gallery at PLN 7 and the Princely Stables at PLN 8, each about 30 minutes. An audio guide for the interiors cost PLN 10. Guided tours need advance booking through the castle's reservation page, while a self-guided visit uses information panels in the rooms. Tickets for the main route are the sensible thing to buy first. There are stairs on the interior route, and the castle's accessibility page is the place to check lifts before going. Prices will have moved, so use these as a guide.

The park

The park covers 156 hectares in total. The Castle Park takes up 48 hectares along the Pszczynka river, with a larger wooded area to the west known as the Wild Promenade and a small park by the railway to the east. The Bison Centre is part of the Wild Promenade, with an enclosure of almost 10 hectares. Judge the loop by eye and turn back when the legs complain.

The open-air museum, Zagroda Wsi Pszczyńskiej, is about 2 hectares in the eastern part of the park on ul. Parkowa. It holds wooden buildings moved from nearby villages, mostly from the nineteenth century, including a cottage from Grzawa dated 1831, a smithy, a barn from 1811 and a windmill. It is open Monday to Friday 9:00 to 17:00 and Saturday and Sunday 10:00 to 18:00. The Stary Młyn inn, in an old water mill inside the museum area, serves regional food, and it is the one place to eat that was found for this trip. Check its opening hours on the day.

Getting back

Trains run both ways on the Intercity corridor. Check the last departure to Katowice on the day, because the sample timetable ended at 22:25 and weekday services vary. Katowice Airport is reached by the airport rail connection or the AP bus, covered in the race guide.
