After the Snowdonia Marathon: North Wales Castles and Coast
The Route: Llanberis → Conwy → Llandudno Logistics: By car or rail; both towns are well connected to the wider North Wales coast. Marathon Month: October Duration: 2 nights
Llanberis ──(car/rail)──> Conwy ──> Llandudno
North Wales's coast offers a genuine two-night extension beyond the marathon's mountain setting, trading Snowdonia's peaks for medieval town walls and a Victorian seaside resort. October on the North Wales coast: quieter than summer, with the castles and promenades still fully open.
Conwy
Conwy, with its complete medieval town walls and imposing castle, is one of the best-preserved fortified towns in Britain, easily explored on foot over a relaxed day or two.
Llandudno
Llandudno, a short distance further along the coast, offers a classic Victorian seaside resort with a long, flat promenade, a gentle contrast to the marathon's own mountainous terrain.
Where to stay: Both Conwy and Llandudno have a good range of hotels and guesthouses, with Llandudno offering the wider seafront selection.
Where to eat: Llandudno's promenade and town centre have a broad choice of restaurants, from casual seafront cafés to more formal dining.
Getting Back
Onward travel from Llandudno runs via its own railway station, with connections back toward Bangor and Llanberis or further afield along the North Wales coast line.
