The Split Marathon takes place in mid-February, so this is a winter island trip and should be planned as one. Brač is across the channel from Split, and the ferry runs all year, which makes a night away straightforward on the Monday after the race.

February on Brač: expect cool, often windy weather and a quiet town. Many seasonal restaurants and shops close for winter, and the beaches are empty. Wind can affect ferry operations, so check the Jadrolinija schedule on the day, and keep your return flexible. Do not assume summer fast-catamaran services run in February. Use the winter schedule at jadrolinija.hr.

Night One: Supetar

Supetar is Brač's main ferry port. Supetar sits at sea level around its harbour, so the waterfront walk is flat, and it is the recovery asset here. Allow 30 to 45 minutes at post-marathon pace.

Brač has a longer link to Split than the ferry. Its white limestone was quarried for Diocletian's Palace, the structure you will have run past on the Riva. The same stone is in the White House in Washington.

The ferry carries foot passengers and vehicles. Check the baggage rules when you buy a ticket, and carry only what you can manage on board. Winter accommodation and restaurants need checking directly: confirm that your hotel is open, that reception is staffed when you arrive and where you can eat. Winter opening hours vary and some places close completely. Ask about meals when you book.

Getting Home

Return to Split on Tuesday after breakfast on a sailing you have checked. From the port, the Platanus shuttle runs to Split Airport (SPU), a journey of about 30 minutes. Fares are €10 single or €15 return on the operator's published pricing. Allow time for a delay if the wind is up.
