After the Strathearn Marathon: Highland Perthshire

The Route: Comrie → Highland Perthshire Logistics: By car; the lochs and glens of Highland Perthshire are best reached and explored with your own transport. Marathon Month: June Duration: 2 nights

Comrie ──(by car)──> Highland Perthshire

North of Comrie, Highland Perthshire opens up into genuine Scottish loch-and-glen scenery, a fitting two-night extension for runners who enjoyed the marathon's own hilly Perthshire setting and want more of the same at a gentler pace. June in Highland Perthshire: long daylight hours, with lochs and hillsides at their most accessible before the midge season fully sets in.

Lochs and Glens

Loch Tay, Loch Rannoch and the surrounding glens offer a mix of easy lochside walks and more demanding hill paths, giving runners the choice between a genuinely gentle recovery day and something more active later in the trip. Small towns like Aberfeldy and Pitlochry make practical bases, both with a reasonable choice of accommodation and restaurants for the area.

Where to stay: Pitlochry and Aberfeldy both offer a wider range of guesthouses and small hotels than Comrie itself.

Where to eat: Both towns have a decent spread of cafés, pubs and restaurants, the practical dining base for this part of Highland Perthshire.

Getting Back

The return drive to Comrie retraces the same route south through Perthshire, with onward travel from Perth available for anyone continuing their journey.
