Kazimierz Dolny sits on the same river the marathon course crosses twice, but two and a half hours upstream everything about the pace changes. This is a small Renaissance market town built on the medieval grain trade, its wealth frozen into ornately carved merchant houses around the main square.
Getting There
Direct and connecting buses run from Warsaw to Kazimierz Dolny in around two and a half hours. There is no direct rail line; the bus is the practical option for this route.
The Town
The Rynek, the main square, is lined with Renaissance houses built by grain merchants in the 16th and 17th centuries, their facades carved with saints, animals and merchant symbols rather than left plain. Galleries and small museums occupy several of the old buildings, and the town has long attracted Polish painters, giving it an artistic reputation beyond its size. A ruined castle and a watchtower sit on the hill above the town, reachable by a steep path.
Keep It Gentle
Quads still complaining from race day are a good reason to skip the steeper hill paths up to the castle ruins and stay on the flatter streets around the market square and riverfront instead. One night is enough to see the town properly without pushing a recovery day too hard.
Getting Back
Return buses to Warsaw run on the same route, making Kazimierz Dolny a manageable single-night add-on rather than a multi-day commitment.
