After the Waterford Viking Marathon: Tramore and Dunmore East
The Route: Waterford → Tramore → Dunmore East Logistics: By car; both coastal towns are a short drive from Waterford city, best reached with your own transport. Marathon Month: June Duration: Day trip
Waterford ──(by car)──> Tramore ──> Dunmore East
A short drive from Waterford opens up a genuinely different landscape from the marathon's own river and greenway setting: a proper Irish coastline, with a wide beach at Tramore and a working fishing harbour at Dunmore East.
Tramore and Dunmore East
Tramore's long sandy beach and promenade offer flat, easy walking, a good match for legs still recovering from the marathon. Dunmore East, a short distance further along the coast, is a picturesque fishing village with cliff walks and colourful thatched cottages, a pleasant, low-effort place to spend an afternoon.
Where to eat: Both towns have a good spread of seafood-focused pubs and restaurants, a fitting way to close out a Waterford weekend.
Getting Back
The return drive to Waterford retraces the same coastal road back into the city.
