Sliabh Liag, among the highest sea cliffs in Europe, sits a short drive from Killybegs, a genuinely spectacular sight worth building a day around. This should be treated as optional and weather-dependent rather than a certainty: the cliffs can be windy and more demanding than they look, a real consideration the day after a marathon.

The Cliffs

Sliabh Liag rises directly from the Atlantic, with a viewing area reachable by a short, if steep, walk from the car park, and a longer path continuing further along the cliff edge for those with the legs and the weather for it. On a clear day the views are genuinely dramatic; in poor conditions, the wind alone can make the walk uncomfortable, so check the forecast before committing to more than the main viewpoint.

Where to eat: Teelin and Carrick, the small villages at the base of the cliffs, have a handful of pubs and cafés suited to a straightforward stop.

Getting Back

The return drive to Killybegs retraces the same coastal road.
