History
The Maratona de Cuiabá is a young race. Its first edition was held on 22 December 2024 as the 1ª Maratona e 3ª Meia Maratona Cuiabá Cidade do Sol, starting at 03:45 outside the Depósito da Verdão in the Parque Industrial. The organiser was Circuito Mais Quilômetros de Corrida de Cuiabá MT.
Roberta Reis won the women's race in about 3h25, a rounded figure and not an official timing result.
A second edition ran on 21 December 2025. Individual results have not been published.
The third marathon edition, and the fifth half marathon, is planned for 20 December 2026. In 2024 all distances ran on the Sunday. In 2026 the 5 km and half marathon run on the Saturday and the 10 km and marathon on the Sunday.
The organiser states that its aim is participation, wellbeing and sporting integration. Winners, finish times and field sizes for the later editions have not been published.
The course
The marathon is advertised as 42.195 km. It starts and finishes in front of the Centro de Distribuição Verdão in the Parque Industrial de Cuiabá, and the first runners leave from 03:45. The 10 km race starts on the same morning.
The 2025 course is a looped circuit through the streets of the Distrito Industrial. It repeats Rua B, Rua D, Rua N and Rua O several times, never strays more than 4.0 km from the start, and reaches its furthest point at about km 21.7. The start and finish are within 40 m of each other. The organiser says the route will be marked, and that water is available at the start and finish and about every 2.5 km. The race closes six hours after the first start.
The smoothed profile spans 27 m, from 176 m to 203 m. The high point is at about km 5.4 on Rua B and the low point at about km 21.7. The longest climb is 15 m over 7.7 km (0.2%) between km 3.1 and km 10.8, followed by a 16 m descent to km 12.1. A second 17 m descent takes the course to its low point by km 21.6, and a 19 m climb (0.5%) follows to km 25.5. A last 16 m climb (0.2%) runs from km 30.0 to km 38.1. No gradient reaches 2%. A measurement certificate has not been published, and the 2026 map has not been released.
Kilometre by kilometre
Km 0 to 11: Rua Treze, then Rua B and Rua D. The course leaves the start area on Rua Treze in the dark, from 03:45, and loops through Avenida P, Rua B and Rua D. A gradual 15 m climb over 7.7 km (0.2%) peaks at about 203 m near km 5.4, then the course eases down 16 m by km 12.
Km 11 to 22: Rua O and Rua N, down to the low point. Rua O and Rua N carry the course south and east, with Avenida X and Rua Z at the far end. A 17 m descent between km 18.2 and km 21.6 reaches the low point of 176 m at about km 21.7, the furthest the course gets from the start at 4.0 km in a straight line.
Km 22 to 31: back up Rua O and Rua N. The course retraces Rua O and Rua N with a 19 m climb at 0.5% to km 25.5, then settles around 190 m to 195 m.
Km 31 to 42.2: Rua D, Rua B and home on Rua Treze. The final loops repeat Rua D and Rua B, with a last 16 m climb over 8.1 km (0.2%) from km 30 to km 38. A short drop on Avenida P at km 38 leads back onto Rua Treze for the finish.
Water is available at the start and finish and about every 2.5 km.
A gradual 15 m climb to the high point of 203 m near km 5.4, then a 16 m descent. No gradient reaches 2%.
A 17 m descent to the low point of 176 m at about km 21.7, the furthest the course gets from the start.
A 19 m climb at 0.5% to km 25.5, then level running near 190 m.
A last 16 m climb over eight kilometres, then a short drop on Avenida P before the finish on Rua Treze.
Course Map
The 2025 course: repeated loops through the streets of the Distrito Industrial, starting and finishing at the same point. Tap the marker for details, and scrub the slider or press play to move the orange marker along the course with the elevation profile beneath it.
December is the wet season in Cuiabá. A weather station there gives a monthly mean of 27.7°C and 193.2 mm of rain for the month. No figure is available for 03:45, so the early hours cannot be described as cool.
Plan for heat and humidity. A light, vented vest, a cap with a vent and sunscreen are sensible, because the race stays open until about 09:45 and the later part is in daylight. A thin rain shell is more useful than a warm layer. Wet roads are slippery, so choose shoes with a reliable outsole.
The start is before dawn. The organiser has not said whether the roads are lit, so consider a small head torch only if the organiser confirms it is allowed.
Entry
Entry is open and paid. There is no ballot and no qualifying time. Register through the organiser's page on Morro MT, or through the goMI platform, which also carries the race. The limit is 1,000 entries across all distances, and the sale closes on 10 December or earlier if places run out. There is no separate marathon quota. The solo marathon runs on four price tiers, shown in the table below.
These are published face prices, not tested checkout totals. Platform charges are unknown. The basic kit lists a bib and timing chip, individual insurance, a finisher medal and post-race food. The VIP kit lists a shirt, socks, bib, chip, insurance and post-race food, and the VIP wording does not mention the medal, so confirm what is included.
Marathon runners must be over 18, with age counted at 31 December of the race year. The wording is ambiguous for a runner who turns exactly 18, so ask the organiser. A medical certificate is compulsory for the marathon. The accepted wording, the maximum age of the certificate, foreign-language acceptance and the way to submit it are not published. Resolve this before paying for travel.
A 50% discount for older runners applies to the basic kit only. Free registration for disabled entrants covers the walking event and 5 km basic kit, not the marathon.
A refund can be requested within seven working days of registration, and after that the rules give none. A name transfer costs R$25, and the deadline and process are not stated. Two-day challenge combinations exist; check their price on the registration page.
The organiser can change dates, prices and capacity. Keep the rules and your receipt.
How a foreign runner pays, whether a CPF tax number is needed and whether a passport is accepted were not documented.
| Period | Basic kit (BRL) | VIP kit (BRL) |
|---|---|---|
| 5 May to 3 August | 135 | 165 |
| 4 August to 26 September | 155 | 185 |
| 27 September to 2 November | 175 | 205 |
| 3 November to 10 December | 205 | 235 |
Fast runner standards
There is no qualifying time and no ballot, so no elite or guaranteed-entry standard applies to the general field.
Race Weekend
Expo and bib collection
Kit collection is on Wednesday 16 December from 14:00 to 19:00 and Thursday 17 December from 09:00 to 19:00. The organiser's schedule also lists 18 December with a 2025 date, which is probably an error, so treat only 16 and 17 December as confirmed.
The organiser says the collection venue will be announced about 20 days before the race. None has been announced. The Morro MT office address is not the collection venue.
The rules say there is no collection on Saturday or outside the stated hours. They do not mention a Sunday exception, so do not plan to collect on race morning.
Check your kit contents and personal details when you collect. A person collecting for you is called a "responsável" in the rules, but there is no full policy on authorisation, photo identification, passports or the medical certificate.
Plan to arrive in Cuiabá by the Thursday. A late Friday flight is risky until the final collection day is confirmed.
Getting to the start
The marathon starts from 03:45 on Sunday outside the Centro de Distribuição Verdão in the Parque Industrial. The 10 km race starts the same morning.
Ask the organiser for a map pin for the venue and for the arrival point. Do not give a driver the Morro MT address in Goiabeiras, which is the registration contractor's office.
No shuttle, free public transport, parking plan or road-closure list has been published. Book a hotel car or taxi the day before and agree a drop-off point. The airport has a 24-hour taxi rank, but that does not mean a taxi will be waiting at your hotel at 02:00.
Normal hotel breakfast starts at about 06:00 at two of the hotels checked, which is too late. Ask for a packed breakfast, and arrange an evening meal you tolerate well.
Corral opening time, check-in rules, bag drop, toilets and warm-up space were not published. Do not assume a one-hour arrival rule.
Nutrition on course
Water is available at the start and finish and about every 2.5 km, with no published list of stations. Cup or bottle format, electrolyte drinks, gels, fruit and salt are not documented. Carry your own fuel and practise with it. Emergency care and ambulance transfer to the public health service are stated, but medical posts and toilets are not located. In December heat, drink at every station.
Spectating
The only supportable spectator location is the start and finish area. No arena plan, crowd zone, tracker or repeated-pass point has been published. A shared start and finish does not mean runners pass the venue at half-way.
From a 03:45 start, a 3h30 marathon finishes at about 07:15, a 4h30 at about 08:15 and a 5h30 at about 09:15. These are sums from the first start and need the runner's start delay added.
Post-race food
No finish-area food menu is published beyond "post-race food" in the kit. Pack a snack. The restaurants below are later meals, and each needs transport from the industrial venue.
Ventanas, Deville Prime, Avenida Isaac Póvoas 1000, Centro Norte. Daily lunch from 12:00 to 15:00 and dinner from 19:00 to 23:00, with regional and international dishes. The hotel also lists 24-hour room service.
Doc, Delmond, Avenida André Maggi 1980, Alvorada. Contemporary cooking with local influence, with dinner daily from 18:00 to 22:00. The executive lunch runs Monday to Saturday, so do not count on Sunday lunch.
Restaurant, ibis Cuiabá Shopping, Rua das Tulipas 1400. An on-site restaurant and a 24-hour snack bar. Sunday restaurant hours and dishes are not confirmed.
Where to Stay
Start and finish share one venue in the Parque Industrial, and its exact position is unknown. The decision is therefore about a reliable pre-dawn car. No hotel can honestly be called walkable from the start.
Centro Norte
The Deville Prime on Avenida Isaac Póvoas has a restaurant and room service. Its breakfast starts after the marathon starts, so arrange food separately.
Goiabeiras
The Intercity Cuiabá is on Rua Presidente Arthur Bernardes and the ibis Cuiabá Shopping on Rua das Tulipas. These are general city bases at different budgets. They share a district with the registration contractor's office, which is not the venue.
Alvorada
The Delmond, on Avenida André Maggi, is an upscale option with a restaurant. No race shuttle or late checkout is confirmed.
Várzea Grande, by the airport
The Slim Hotel Cuiabá Aeroporto is on Avenida João Ponce de Arruda. It suits an early arrival or departure and needs another transfer to the venue.
Ask any hotel about air conditioning, a wake-up call, a booked driver for 02:30, a packed breakfast and a late checkout or second night. Prices are relative, and no race-week rates were checked.
Recommended hotels
Air-conditioned rooms and a 24-hour snack bar. Breakfast is extra and no race transfer is confirmed.
A city hotel with a pool and food facilities. No race transport is confirmed.
Restaurant and 24-hour room service. Standard breakfast is too late for the start.
In-hotel restaurant. Sunday lunch is not confirmed.
An airport hotel outside the city. It needs a separate transfer to the venue, and no shuttle is confirmed.
Booking timeline
The entry price rises in steps, and the final tier opens on 3 November. The sale closes on 10 December or earlier if the 1,000 places for all distances are gone. Settle the medical certificate and the age wording before paying.
Do not book non-refundable travel until the collection date and venue are confirmed. Kit collection has two explicit days in the middle of the week, and the Saturday is excluded.
Book a hotel with free cancellation, and arrange the pre-dawn car once the venue pin is known. No sellout pattern or race rate was found.
If you plan to extend to Chapada dos Guimarães, the national park lists closures on 24 and 25 December and on 31 December and 1 January. Reconfirm before booking activities.
The airport is Cuiabá Marechal Rondon (CGB), in Várzea Grande.
See & Do
Distances are from the finish, kilometres first, then miles.
Museu do Morro da Caixa D'Água Velha
A museum about the city's water supply. The city council said in September that it remained open during improvement works. December hours and step-free access are not published. A short indoor visit suits a recovery day.
Mirante Rio Cuiabá
A river viewpoint on the Orla do Porto that the council reopened in September after repairs and added lighting. It is near the river museum and aquarium. Check hours and any barriers before walking.
Sesc Arsenal
A cultural complex that has an active 2026 programme. Opening hours come from older notices, so check the December programme before you go.
After the Race
A day in the Chapada dos Guimarães national park with a short walk to the Véu de Noiva viewpoint.
A night in the service town of Chapada dos Guimarães, with a light viewpoint walk on the way in or out.
Two nights with a second day that depends on recovery and weather, including the longer waterfall circuit.
What to ask before booking a Pantanal stay in December, and what to do if the answers are poor.
