History
The Rimini Marathon dates from 2014, and the first event's official results are dated 27 April 2014. The 2027 race is billed as the 12th edition, but edition numbers may include interruptions, so they should not be read as an unbroken run of years.
The organiser promotes 1,832 finishers as a historical record, set in 2019. The festival now spans a half marathon, a 16 km, a family run and children's events, plus a wheelchair-pusher gathering and a charity programme. One euro of each standard entry supports charity.
The race is organised by ASD Rimini Marathon Unstoppable. The organiser says the 2027 route is FIDAL measured and homologated, but the 2027 FIDAL calendar tier and any World Athletics label were not found, so no label should be implied. Rimini is also one of five cities in the HypER 5 circuit with Bologna, Parma, Ravenna and Reggio Emilia. The current course record and a past-winners table are not published in the sources.
The course
The marathon starts at 09:00 on the Lungomare Claudio Tintori beside the Grand Hotel on Rimini's seafront, and finishes at the Rotonda Lucio Battisti, about 0.4 km away. The organiser describes a flat, fast course with few turns along the coast, with kilometre signs and traffic control.
The 2027 course map shows an opening loop of about 8 km through the port and the streets west and south of the centre, then a long run south-east along the coast through Riccione to Misano Adriatico, a turn at Santa Monica at about km 26, and a return along the same line. The organiser's own embedded course page still shows a 2026 heading.
The organiser gives no figure for climb. The coast is flat.
Kilometre by kilometre
Kilometre positions come from the 2027 course map and are approximate to about half a kilometre.
Km 0 to 8: the opening loop. The gun fires at 09:00 on the Lungomare Tintori. The half marathon started 30 minutes earlier. The route goes down to the port on Via Destra del Porto at 1 km, then west by Via Muccioli at 2 km and Via Grandi at 3 km to Viale Cenci at 4 km. It turns south-east on Corso Giovanni XXIII at 5 km and runs through Via Oberdan at 6 km and Via Michele Rosa at 7 km before joining the Ugolini cycle path at 8 km. Four start grids stand in the pen: top runners, 3:00 to 3:45, 3:45 to 4:30 and 4:30 and slower. Enter your grid by 08:30. The first aid stands at km 5.
Km 8 to 25: south-east along the coast. From Viale Fiume at 9 km the line follows Viale Regina Elena and Viale Regina Margherita towards the border with Riccione, which it crosses at about 16 km on Viale Aosta. It passes Viale Dante at 19 km and Viale Gramsci at 20 km, then Viale Colombo at 21 km, Viale Torino at 23 km and Viale della Stazione in Misano Adriatico at 24 km. Aid stands every 5 km, with sponges at 7.5, 12.5, 17.5 and 22.5 km, and solid food from km 20. Toilets are listed at km 10 and km 21.
Km 25 to 26: the turn. The course reaches its southernmost point at Santa Monica, on Viale della Stazione at about km 26, and turns. After the turn you run back along the same stretch of coast on Via Litoranea Sud and Via Litoranea Nord.
Km 26 to 42: the same road back. The return follows the same line, so you pass the aid stations again, through Riccione on the Lungomare della Repubblica and the seafront promenades at 31 to 34 km. Aid at km 30, 35 and 40, with sponges at 27.5, 32.5 and 37.5 km, and a toilet at km 35. The sea breeze can matter, and it may be a headwind on the way back. The route crosses back into Rimini at about 36 km, runs the Lungomare Spadazzi, Murri and Tintori for the last 5 km and finishes by the Rotonda, beside the Marathon Village.
The pacers listed for 2027 are 3:00, 3:15, 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 4:45 and 6:00. There are no 5:00 or 5:30 groups, so a runner aiming for that range should plan their own splits. The chip records halfway and the finish.
A loop through the port and the streets west and south of the centre, with four grids. Find your grid and hold back.
A long, flat run through Riccione towards Misano. Aid every 5 km and solids from km 20.
The southernmost point of the course at Santa Monica. Check your split before the return.
The same coast road, possibly into the sea breeze, to the finish at the Rotonda.
Course Map
The map shows the 2027 course. Tap a marker for the start, finish, the Marathon Village, the station and the places on the course.
No elevation chart is drawn for this course. It runs along the sea at a few metres above sea level, and the organiser calls it flat but publishes no profile.
Pacers
The organiser's 2027 rules list pacers, subject to staffing. Balloons and printed singlets identify the leaders. There is no 5:00 or 5:30 group. Paces per kilometre are computed from 42.195 km.
| Target time | Pace per km |
|---|---|
| 3:00 | 4:16 |
| 3:15 | 4:37 |
| 3:30 | 4:59 |
| 3:45 | 5:20 |
| 4:00 | 5:41 |
| 4:15 | 6:03 |
| 4:30 | 6:24 |
| 4:45 | 6:45 |
| 6:00 | 8:32 |
The course runs south-east along the coast to a turn at about km 26 and returns along the same road, so any sea breeze that helps you out may hold you back on the return.
The half marathon starts at 08:30, and the 16 km shares the 09:00 programme with the marathon. Enter your grid by 08:30.
Rimini counts towards the HypER 5 circuit with Bologna, Parma, Ravenna and Reggio Emilia. Register for the circuit separately.
Mid-April on the Romagna coast can be mild or breezy, and the gun fires at 09:00 on an exposed seafront. A sea breeze is plausible, not forecast, and it can chill a runner standing in the start grid. Bring a throwaway layer for the wait.
The route is flat and open, so a light cap and sun protection are sensible if the day is clear. A dry change in the bag is worth having for the finish, where showers and changing are at the village. Check the forecast in race week.
Entry
Entry is online and open, with a cap of 2,500 and no ballot. Fees rise each month, as in the table below. Online entry closes on 11 April, and there is no Sunday entry for the marathon. At about €1 to £0.858 the tiers are roughly £34, £39, £43, £47, £51, £56 and £64. Groups of six pay for five, and groups of 15 or more have their own tier.
Runners must be 20 or over in 2027. Competitive entry needs a 2027 FIDAL card, a RunCard or RunCard-EPS with a valid athletics-specific competitive medical certificate, or a card from a foreign athletics federation recognised by World Athletics. A foreign runner can self-certify membership online but must sign the original declaration at bib collection. The entry explainer mentions a €30 RunCard for runners without a card, which conflicts with the overseas route, so confirm which applies before paying twice. The rules do not state a tourist or non-ranked route for the full marathon. The medical proof must be valid on race day.
The fee is not refundable. Transfers, distance changes and a deferral to the next edition must be made by 28 February 2027, and a deferral gives 50% off the next entry. Rimini is part of the HypER 5 circuit. Register for the circuit separately.

Marathon Village and bib collection
The Marathon Village stands at the Rotonda Lucio Battisti. It is open on Friday from 15:00 to 19:30 and on Saturday from 09:30 to 19:30. The organiser's rules give a Sunday bib window of 07:00 to 09:00, but the home programme and the marathon page give 07:00 to 08:30. Plan to collect by 08:30, which is also when bag drop closes and grid entry begins.
Show your ENDU confirmation letter on your phone and bring your documents, such as a medical certificate. A friend can collect your bib with a valid ID. Packs and bibs are handed out in the village, and the village advertises food and music.
Getting to the start
The start and the finish are both at the Rotonda Lucio Battisti, so sleeping near the Grand Hotel in Marina Centro removes any transfer. Bag drop is in the village and closes at 08:30, with a bib-stickered bag. Showers and changing are there after the race. Grid entry is also at 08:30, and late starters go to the rear.
The rules list parking near Viale Principe Amedeo, Rimini station, Clementini and Settebello, but availability and closures on race day are not confirmed. Sunday first trains and buses, any strike and the traffic-limit plan are not published. Collect your bib on Friday or Saturday instead of relying on a Sunday connection from far away.
The half marathon starts at 08:30, and the 16 km and the marathon share the 09:00 programme, so check your grid and your direction at the first junctions. Music devices are allowed with attention to road rules, except for elite athletes.
Nutrition on course
The organiser lists eight refreshment stations at every 5 km from km 5 to km 40, with water at each and supplements, sugars and fruit. Solid food is available from km 20. Seven sponge stops stand at 7.5, 12.5, 17.5, 22.5, 27.5, 32.5 and 37.5 km. Toilets are at km 10, 21 and 35 and at the start and finish.
The rules mention a dedicated aid for coeliac runners but give no location or cross-contact protocol, so ask before relying on it. Brands and menus are not published.
Spectating
The Rotonda Lucio Battisti is the start and the finish and the easiest anchor for a spectator. The out-and-back course passes Riccione at about 20 km and again at about 31 km, but roads close while runners pass, so do not assume unrestricted travel along the coast.
Results and photos are promised through ENDU and Evodata. A live map tracker was not found.
- Watch the 09:00 start at the Rotonda Lucio Battisti
- Visit the Marathon Village and the seafront
- Return to the Rotonda for the finish
Post-race food
The finish serves hot and cold drinks and solid food, and the village advertises food and music. Marina Centro is the convenient place to look for a proper meal. The Romagna dishes are piadina with ham and squacquerone cheese, grilled fish and brodetto, a fish stew.
Early in the season some beachfront restaurants stay closed, so book a table before race day and ask whether the kitchen is open on Sunday afternoon.
Where to Stay
Stay in Marina Centro near the Grand Hotel. The start, the finish, the expo and the bag drop are all at the Rotonda Lucio Battisti, so a short walk is all you need.
Marina Centro and the Grand Hotel
The best base. Walk to the expo and the gun. Check that your hotel is open in April and serves an early breakfast, because many beach hotels operate seasonally.
Rimini station and the old town
A longer walk or a taxi from the start, about 1 km to the station. The historic sights, including the Arch of Augustus and the Tiberius Bridge, are nearby.
The southern beachfront
A resort choice, but race-morning road and bus restrictions must be checked before you book.
The organiser links hotel and bib packages through VisitRimini. Book a cancellable room once your entry is confirmed, and check that the hotel is open in mid-April.
Recommended hotels
The historic seafront hotel beside the Rotonda Lucio Battisti. Confirm April opening and the early breakfast.
A seafront hotel. Confirm April opening, rates and the walk to the Rotonda.
Booking timeline
The cheapest tier is €40 in September, and the price rises every month. Confirm your card or certificate. The transfer, distance change and deferral deadline is 28 February. Bib numbers are assigned on 8 April, online entry closes on 11 April and the confirmation letter follows on 14 April.
Reserve a cancellable room near the start, and check that it is open in April. Rimini has an airport, but flight and transfer schedules need checking. Revisit the Sunday bib cut-off, the road closures and the weather in race week.
See & Do
Distances are straight-line from the Rotonda Lucio Battisti. Check April opening hours.
Parco del Mare seafront
A flat seafront promenade beside the Grand Hotel, level enough for tired legs.
Ponte di Tiberio
A Roman bridge still in use, beside the old fishermen's quarter of Borgo San Giuliano.
Tempio Malatestiano
A Renaissance church remodelled by Leon Battista Alberti. Check opening hours.
Arch of Augustus
A Roman arch at the end of the Via Flaminia, dating from 27 BC.
After the Race
The race is on a Sunday in April, so recovery days start on the Monday. The old town is a flat walk, and Santarcangelo, Ravenna and San Marino are an easy trip.
A flat walk from the Roman arch to the Roman bridge, with a Renaissance temple, a Fellini museum and a former fishing quarter in between.
A small hill town above the Marecchia valley, with a maze of tufa caves under the streets and a quiet evening after the coast.
Two nights in a flat city of Byzantine mosaics, with a short train ride up the coast.
One night on a limestone mountain in the world's oldest surviving republic, then two in Bologna, with the steep parts taken by cable car and bus.
