São Jorge
The Chapada dos Veadeiros is a plateau north of Brasília known for waterfalls and walking trails, and it makes a very different second act to the planned capital. This is a trip for the Wednesday or later, after the legs have recovered, and it needs more checking than the others because park access changes.
November in the Chapada: November is in the wet season. The Brasília normals, 21.7°C mean and 253.1 mm of rain, are a rough guide, and trails near water can be slippery. Check the forecast and the access rules before you commit to a hike.
Getting There
By car the drive is long, at about 235 km and just under four hours. A coach operator lists fares from R$69 on the route; confirm the departure time and terminal. If you want to continue to São Jorge, plan a transfer from Alto Paraíso, because there is no direct bus. Fire damage has led to closures in the national park this year, and a headline dated 7 October 2026 reported that it had reopened. Check the park's current status and opening days before you arrange transport.
Where to Stay
- Pousada Chales Alto da Estancia in Alto Paraíso is a well-reviewed option with a heated pool and a short walk to the centre.
- Pousada Camelot Inn is a reasonable alternative in town.
- In São Jorge, Pousada Raizes is a budget choice with good reviews.
What to Do
Start with a walk in town and a long lunch. Build the rest around what is open. The park may be open for some trails and closed for others, and other waterfalls outside the park are managed privately, so book through your pousada and ask about entry fees.
Where to Eat
Eat in town on the first evening and ask the pousada for a recommendation. Restaurants in small towns often close early, so ask.
Getting Home
Allow a full day to return to Brasília. If you are flying from BSB, do not schedule a morning flight after a long road leg.
