History
The first Maratona Monumental de Brasília was run on 21 April 2019, the capital's anniversary. A contemporary report counted 681 marathon finishers among 2,897 finishers across four distances. Water ran out for slower marathoners, a shortage that the organiser acknowledged, and a half-marathon turnaround was initially misplaced and later corrected.
The 2020 edition was postponed because of the pandemic, first from April to September and then further. The race returned in October 2021 with more than 3,000 participants across its programme. The 2022 start was at the Shopping Popular de Brasília, with a finish on the Esplanada; the 2026 rules put the start and finish at the same Esplanada address.
Monumental joined the Mega Finisher circuit in May 2024, alongside Buenos Aires, Lima, Asunción and Montevideo, and the International Association of Marathons and Distance Races lists it as a full member. The 2024 winners were Rejane Ester Bispo da Silva in 2:57:37 and Renilson Vitorino da Silva in 2:26:16, under a national Prata permit. On 23 November 2025, André Luiz Silva Antonio won in 2:27:15 and Senara Almeida in 3:00:43. By 2026 the permit was Ouro, number 45/2026.
The seventh edition, on 22 November 2026, runs over a weekend of races on Saturday and Sunday and offers a challenge that pairs a Saturday 5 km or 10 km with a Sunday half or full marathon.
The course
The Monumental Brasília Marathon starts and finishes on the Esplanada dos Ministérios, in the middle of the capital's monumental axis, with the first wave leaving at 05:00. The course is two out-and-back legs from the same address. The first runs south-east down to Lake Paranoá, crosses the Ponte Juscelino Kubitschek from km 7, turns on the Lago Sul shore at km 9 and comes back over the bridge. The second heads west along the Estrada Parque das Nações on a long leg beside the lake to a turn at about km 25 near the Estrada Parque Guará, and retraces the same road to the city.
The profile spans 89 m, from 1,001 m to 1,090 m above sea level. The Esplanada is at 1,083 m and the road drops 82 m over the first 7.1 km (1.1%) to the bridge at 1,001 m, the low point of the course. It then climbs 46 m over 7.7 km (0.6%) to 1,047 m at km 14.8. The long western leg is rolling, between 1,016 m and 1,047 m, with short rises of 18 m at km 21 and km 23 to 25. The return repeats it, and the finish is a steady climb: 33 m over 6.5 km from km 29.3, then 46 m over 3.7 km (1.2%) from km 37.8 to the high point of 1,090 m beside the start. The organiser prints 295 m of gain.
This is not the August LIVE!42K route on the Eixão. Water is served in 200 ml cups, and the first point is at km 2.6.
The JK Bridge. The course crosses the bridge from km 7, turns on the far shore at km 9 and returns over it, so the bridge is run twice, at the low point of the course.
An Esplanada start. The marathon starts and finishes among the ministry blocks of the Esplanada dos Ministérios.
A profile that is not flat. The early descent of 82 m makes the first 7 km fast, and the 46 m climb over the last 3.7 km asks for a sensible start.
Kilometre by kilometre
Km 0 to 7: down to the lake. The waves leave the Esplanada between 05:00 and 05:20, from the PCD group to the slowest pen. The road runs south-east past the Setor de Clubes Sul and falls 82 m in 7.1 km. Water stands at km 2.6 and 5.5, with toilets at km 2.6.
Km 7 to 14: the JK Bridge and back. The course crosses the Ponte Juscelino Kubitschek at km 7, reaches the Estrada Parque JK on the Lago Sul side and turns at km 9. The return over the bridge, the low point at 1,001 m, leads onto the 46 m climb on the SCES road to km 14.8. The first cutoff is at km 14.9, 2 hours 20 minutes after the slowest wave starts.
Km 15 to 25: Estrada Parque das Nações. The course turns onto the Estrada Parque das Nações at km 15 and runs west with Asa Sul on one side and Lake Paranoá on the other. It is rolling, with 18 m rises at km 21 and km 23 to 25, and turns near the Estrada Parque Guará at km 25. The second cutoff is at km 25.3, 4 hours after the slowest wave.
Km 25 to 38: the same road back. The field retraces the Estrada Parque das Nações, so faster runners meet slower ones head-on. The road falls 33 m to km 29.3 and then climbs 33 m over 6.5 km to km 35.8. Water points stand at km 35.3, 37.7 and 39.5.
Km 38 to 42.2: the climb home. The road leaves the Estrada Parque at about km 39 for N1 Leste and the Esplanada and climbs 46 m over 3.7 km from km 37.8 to the 1,090 m high point at km 41.5. The finish is on the Esplanada, 3 m from the start.
The waves leave the Esplanada between 05:00 and 05:20. The road falls 82 m in 7.1 km to the JK Bridge, with water at km 2.6 and 5.5.
The bridge is crossed from km 7, the course turns on the Lago Sul shore at km 9 and returns over the bridge before a 46 m climb to km 14.8. The first cutoff is at km 14.9.
A rolling leg to a turn at km 25 and the same road back. The second cutoff is at km 25.3, and the return climbs 33 m from km 29.3 to km 35.8.
The last 3.7 km climb 46 m to the 1,090 m high point beside the finish.

The course as recorded, from the Esplanada dos Ministérios down to the JK Bridge and back, then west along the Estrada Parque das Nações and back to the start. Tap a marker for details, and scrub the slider or press play to move the orange marker along the course with the elevation profile beneath it.
Pacers
The regulation allows pacers ("coelhos") who wear a distinct uniform or a "PACER" label with name and number and must not impede other runners or hand out drinks. Official pacer teams have not been announced; check the participant guide. The coloured pace corrals below are groups for entrants, not a pacer service.

Brasília hosts more than one marathon. The Monumental, covered here, runs in November from the Esplanada and across the JK Bridge. A separate marathon, LIVE!42K, runs in the dry season in August on a different course on the Eixão. A third, the Maratona Brasília, runs in April. Check the name and the date before you book.
November is the wet season in Brasília, in contrast to the dry August of the other marathon in the city. Climate normals for 1991 to 2020 give a November mean of 21.7°C, a daily minimum of 18.1°C, a daily maximum of 27°C and 253.1 mm of rain. They are monthly figures and not readings at 05:00, so check the forecast in race week. Plan for warm, humid running and wet roads.
Wear shorts and a light singlet, and take a cap. A thin waterproof is useful for the wait before the start if rain is forecast. The sacks for the baggage service are supplied by the organiser and take clothing only, so leave valuables at the hotel. No clothing-donation scheme was found, so assume a discarded layer is lost. Pack dry clothes for after the finish.
Headphones and mobile phones are restricted for runners contesting the general or age-group classification, while GPS watches are allowed.
Entry
Entry to the Monumental Brasília Marathon runs through Ticket Sports. The 2026 entry window runs from 20 November 2025 to 31 October 2026, or until capacity is reached, and the transfer deadline of 20 October has passed. Check the platform for remaining places before you book travel.
The final fee band, from 21 August to 31 October 2026, is R$199.90 for the Participação kit (no shirt), R$239.90 for the Básico kit (with shirt) and R$849.90 for the Black premium kit, which adds apparel, a dedicated collection counter, arena access and a buffet. Earlier bands were cheaper, down to R$119.90 at launch. Convenience charges are added. Optional extras include a finisher shirt (R$69.90) and medal engraving (R$39.90). Payment is by boleto, Pix or card, and foreign-card acceptance has not been tested.
Entrants must turn 20 by 31 December 2026 for a distance over 30 km. Age categories run in five-year bands from 20–24 to 65–69, then 70+. These are award categories and not entry standards. Pen placement depends on pace proof sent to the organiser, from sub-4:00/km in the green pen to slower than 6:30/km in the purple one.
Elite entry is by application at least two weeks before the race: men must have run 2:30 or faster and women 2:59 or faster, in at least two official races in 2024, 2025 or 2026, with 30 places for each. A formal transfer was possible once, for R$30. A seven-day withdrawal period applies, and the rules do not promise refunds beyond it. There is no ballot, charity place or official overseas tour allocation.
The foreign-athlete chapter quotes federation country quotas, and it is unclear whether they apply to ordinary overseas amateurs. Ask the organiser before assuming unrestricted overseas entry.

Fast runner standards
The elite standard above applies to a separate application route. It is not a guaranteed-entry standard for the general field.
Race Weekend
Expo and bib collection
Kit collection is at the Pátio Brasil Shopping, in Asa Sul, a different place from the Esplanada start and finish. Collection runs on 19 and 20 November from 09:00 to 19:00 and on Saturday 21 November from 09:00 to 14:00. There is no Sunday collection. Runners travelling from other states or countries can request a Saturday extension from 14:00 to 19:00 by completing the organiser's form by 23:59 on 17 November.
Bring photo identification and your entry confirmation. A friend can collect with the organiser's authorisation form, photo identification and proof of payment. Older-person and PCD entries need the athlete present. A kit that is not collected can be posted for a fee on request between 24 and 26 November, which is not a way to run without a bib.
The Participação kit contains the bib, a bag, a medal and a snack at the finish, without a shirt. The Básico kit adds the event shirt. The Black kit has its own counter and extras. The finisher shirt and medal engraving are priced separately.
Getting to the start
The marathon starts before the city's metro opens. Waves leave between 05:00 and 05:20: the PCD group at 05:00, elite and Black entrants at 05:03 and the general waves from green at 05:05 to purple at 05:20. The half marathon starts an hour later, so check which timetable you are reading.
Ordinary Sunday metro service starts at 07:00, which is too late for any marathon wave, and the Sunday fare-free programme in the Federal District applies to all passengers and does not make the service earlier. No race shuttle was found. A hotel with a walk you have checked, or a booked car to a permitted drop-off, is the practical plan. The five official partner hotels in the Setor Hoteleiro Norte (SHN) advertise a breakfast kit from 04:00 on race day.
Bags go in sacks supplied by the organiser and marked with your number, and the service runs from 04:30 to 12:00 on Sunday. Do not pack valuables. No final gate, corral closing time or toilet count was published, so arrive with time in hand.
At the finish, every qualifying finisher receives a medal and a snack pack, and Challenge entrants collect an extra medal from a list. The controlled transition area is for athletes and credentialled staff, so agree a meeting point outside it. Collect your bag before 12:00.
Nutrition on course
The 2026 regulation lists water in 200 ml cups at km 2.6, 5.5, 8, 10, 12.5, 14.9, 17.5, 20, 22.6, 25.3, 28, 30.6, 33.1, 35.3, 37.7 and 39.5. Isotonic drink is listed at km 14.9 and 25.3, and again separately at km 35.6, 0.3 km from the 35.3 point. Fruit and sugary drinks are at km 14.9, 25.3 and 35.3. Sponges are at km 8, 14.9, 20, 25.3, 30.6, 35.3 and 39.5.
Toilets are at km 2.6, 8, 14.9, 20, 25.3, 30.6, 35.3 and 39.5, and mobile medical points are at km 14.9 and 25.3. The map shows a combined gel and isotonic icon, which does not guarantee gels. Carry the gels you train with.
Elite athletes can leave their own supplements at points around km 5.5, 12.5, 17.5, 22.6, 30 and 37.7. General entrants cannot.

Spectating
The simplest plan is one permitted public position near the Esplanada, which serves both the start and the finish. At a steady 5:00 per km, a 42.195 km race takes about 3 hours 31 minutes from the runner's own wave, so a runner in the green pen starting at 05:05 finishes around 08:36. That is arithmetic and not a prediction. The controlled transition area is restricted to athletes and credentialled staff, and no live tracking or grandstand was found.
The course passes along the lake corridor and bridge twice, which makes repeat sightings plausible, but a supporter must stay on a permitted side and cannot cross a closed lane.
- Stay near the Esplanada and watch the start from an approved public point.
- Wait at the same area for the finish, and agree a meeting point outside the controlled exit.
- Ordinary Sunday metro starts at 07:00, so pre-dawn access from the hotel needs a walk or a car.
- Choose one permitted public point on the Avenida das Nações corridor and wait for both passages.
- The map puts about km 20 and km 31 in the same stretch, which at 6:00 per km gives about 66 minutes between sightings.
- The safe sidewalk and approach have not been verified, so treat this as a conditional plan.
- Pick either a confirmed bridge-side viewing point for km 7 to 11 or the arena, not both.
- No race-day bus route, open footway or vehicle route across the closures was found.
- Wait for the organiser's mobility notice before planning a chase.
Post-race food
The finish kit includes a snack pack with unspecified contents. Only Black entrants have a buffet, so plan a seated meal for later.
Mané Mercado Brasília, in the Arena BRB Mané Garrincha in Asa Norte, is a multi-kitchen venue with table ordering and reservations. Its own site lists Sunday from noon to 22:00, although other listings differ. Take a taxi and book for a group.
Fogo de Chão Brasília, on Setor de Clubes Esportivos Sul, Trecho 2, publishes Sunday hours from noon to 21:30 and seats 350. It serves grilled meats with a salad table and sides.
Brasília Shopping, opposite the Athos Bulcão hotel, has a food court, cafés and restaurants open Sunday from noon to 22:00. Queues are not measured.
Where to Stay
The start and finish are on the Esplanada, so a central base serves both ends of the day. Brasília's hotel sectors are separated from the Esplanada by wide roads and long blocks, so a hotel that looks close on the map may not have a short walk, and no walk has been measured.
Setor Hoteleiro Norte (SHN)
This is the strongest cluster. The race names five partner hotels here (Athos Bulcão, Cullinan, Fusion, Saint Moritz and Vision), all run by the same operator and listed on distinct quadras. Quote the code on the race page for a 20% discount for stays from 17 to 23 November 2026, a breakfast kit from 04:00 on race day and late checkout until 16:00 on request, subject to availability. Check the actual walk to the approved arena entrance during your expo trip.
Asa Norte and long-stay apartments
The same operator lists furnished long-stay properties, including the Biarritz in the SHN. They suit a longer trip with a kitchenette, but they add transport on race morning.
Lakeside (SHTN)
Premier Residence and Life Resort are on the lake side. They suit a runner extending the trip and willing to use a car.
Sudoeste and Guará
Multiparque and Vista Park Sul are secondary choices until a start transfer is confirmed.
Book a refundable room, and confirm breakfast, luggage storage and late checkout.
Recommended hotels
Official race partner, opposite the Brasília Shopping. The race code gives a breakfast kit from 04:00 and late checkout up to 16:00, subject to availability. No shuttle.
Official race partner in the operator's Premium range. Proximity to the Eixo Monumental is not an arena walking time.
Official race partner at a lower operator positioning. The race-weekend total price is unquoted.
Official race partner that the race page describes as facing the Esplanada. A view does not prove direct access.
Official race partner. The race page calls it Executive in one place and Express+ in another, and the operator's site says Executive.
Booking timeline
The entry window closes on 31 October, or when capacity is reached, so confirm your place before you book flights. A transfer request was possible only until 20 October. No ballot is documented, and no historical sellout date was found.
The official hotel offer covers stays from 17 to 23 November 2026, with a 20% advertised discount and a breakfast kit from 04:00 on 22 November. Compare the final rate and the cancellation terms before treating a percentage as the cheapest option. Late checkout up to 16:00 is on request only.
Plan to arrive in time for kit collection on 19 to 21 November. A Saturday extension from 14:00 to 19:00 needs a form completed by 23:59 on 17 November. An unexpected late flight does not create an exception. Recheck the regulation, arena access, the weather and the Sunday transport policy shortly before you travel.
See & Do
Distances are from the finish, kilometres first, then miles.
Catedral Metropolitana Nossa Senhora Aparecida
The visitor schedule is Tuesday to Friday 08:00 to 16:45, Saturday 08:00 to 16:30 and Sunday 09:00 to 17:30. Monday is not listed. Worship interrupts visits. Guided visits ask R$15 and prior confirmation, and visitors are asked to dress respectfully and remove caps.
Congresso Nacional
The official guided programme runs normally from 09:00 to 17:00 in half-hour groups of up to 50, with booking, photo identification and weekday dress conditions. A temporary closure banner was displayed in October 2026, so recheck the dates for late November. A visit involves standing and security checks.
Torre de TV and Memorial JK
A local directory lists the tower from Tuesday to Sunday 09:00 to 18:45 and the memorial from 09:00 to 18:00. Check the current operator's page, as renewal and access details were not confirmed. Do not assume a Monday visit.
After the Race
The Monumental Brasília Marathon is run on a Sunday in late November, in the wet season, and the Monday after is the day when many attractions in the capital are shut. The four options below run from a Tuesday among the monuments of the Esplanada to four nights in the colonial town of Pirenópolis and the Chapada dos Veadeiros. Book transfers separately from tours and check bus times for your date.
A booked visit to Congress, the cathedral and the TV Tower, with a seated lunch. The cathedral and tower are not listed as open on Mondays, so a Tuesday works better.
A colonial town in Goiás, reached by road from Brasília. Buses take a little longer, and the terminal in Brasília is not the same as the one in the Plano Piloto.
A plateau of waterfalls and trails, with a base in Alto Paraíso. There is no direct bus to the village of São Jorge, and the national park has had closures after fire this year.
Two nights in each town with a night's rest between the road legs. It limits luggage moves and avoids a long hike straight after the marathon.
