The Esplanada on a Tuesday: Congress, Cathedral and the Tower

A slow, mostly indoor day among the monuments of the Esplanada, planned for the Tuesday after the marathon because several sights are not listed as open on Mondays.

After the Monumental Brasília Marathon: The Esplanada Day

The Route: Hotel → Catedral Metropolitana → Congresso Nacional → lunch → Torre de TV → hotel Logistics: Short rides within the Plano Piloto. Allow for taxis rather than long walks, because the blocks are wide and the sun is strong. Marathon Month: November Duration: 1 day

The marathon starts and finishes on the Esplanada dos Ministérios, so most runners see the monuments only as a blur of concrete at 05:00. This day gives them back at walking pace. It works best on the Tuesday, because the cathedral and the TV tower are not listed as open on Mondays, and the Monday after a marathon is a day for sitting down anyway.

November in Brasília: November is in the wet season. Climate normals for 1991 to 2020 give a mean of 21.7°C, a maximum of 27°C and 253.1 mm of rain for the month. Those are monthly figures, not a forecast, so plan indoor stops first and leave the open-air ones for the gaps between showers.

Getting There

Take a taxi or app car from your hotel. The partner hotels of the race sit in the Setor Hoteleiro Norte, and none of the walks to the Esplanada has been measured, so do not count on a short stroll with tired legs. Ask the driver to stop at the cathedral first.

The Morning

The Catedral Metropolitana Nossa Senhora Aparecida lists visiting hours of 08:00 to 16:45 from Tuesday to Friday. Worship interrupts visits, and visitors are asked to dress respectfully and remove caps. Guided visits are charged and need prior confirmation, so book ahead if you want one.

The Congresso Nacional offers a guided programme, normally from 09:00 to 17:00 in half-hour groups, with booking and photo identification required. A temporary closure notice was displayed in October 2026, so check the Congress website for your date before building the day around it. A tour means standing, security checks and stairs, which is a fair test of legs after 42.195 km.

Where to Eat

Lunch should be seated and close to your next stop. Mané Mercado Brasília is a multi-kitchen venue in the Arena BRB Mané Garrincha, with table ordering and reservations. The Brasília Shopping, opposite the Athos Bulcão hotel, has a food court and restaurants. Opening hours differ between sources, so check before you go.

The Afternoon

The Torre de TV and the Memorial JK are listed by a local directory as open from Tuesday to Sunday, with the tower from 09:00 to 18:45 and the memorial from 09:00 to 18:00. Operator details may have changed, so check the current page. If the afternoon is wet, the memorial is the sensible choice.

Where to Stay

Most runners will already be in the Setor Hoteleiro Norte.

  • Athos Bulcão Hplus Executive is opposite the Brasília Shopping and is one of the five official race partner hotels.
  • Cullinan Hplus Premium is on Quadra 4 of the same sector and is also a race partner.

Ask about late checkout, which the race offer lists to 16:00 subject to availability, if you are flying out in the afternoon.

Getting Home

Brasília airport (BSB) lists bus 102 to the Rodoviária, official taxis outside domestic arrivals and app cars at numbered pick-up points. Allow for luggage, and check the fare before getting into a taxi.
