Pirenópolis is a colonial town in the state of Goiás, and it gives a runner the thing the capital cannot: a street plan that was not drawn on a drawing board. The distance is long enough to feel like a trip and short enough for a single night.

November in Pirenópolis: November falls in the central Brazilian wet season. The Brasília figures for the month, a mean of 21.7°C and 253.1 mm of rain, are a rough guide and not a forecast. Plan indoor options and carry a light waterproof.

Getting There

Hiring a car or booking a driver is the simplest option. The road-distance source gives about 155 km and just over two hours in normal traffic, and some sources allow closer to three hours, so leave margin for a Monday. A bus is possible, but the Brasília terminal is not necessarily the one nearest your hotel, so check where it leaves from. Do not drive yourself the day after a marathon unless you are confident your legs will respond.

Where to Stay

  • Divina Pousada has a strong guest rating and is a comfortable choice for a single night.
  • Ikabana Pousada is a well-reviewed alternative.

Book a refundable room and ask about early check-in, because the road trip may bring you to town before the room is ready.

What to Do

Keep the day simple. Walk the old streets slowly, sit for a long lunch and let your calves recover. Opening hours for the churches and museums vary, so ask your pousada which ones are open on your day.

Where to Eat

Ask your pousada for a restaurant within a short walk. Order a regional dish and have an early night.

Getting Home

Return to Brasília the next morning. If you are flying from BSB, leave a generous buffer for the road, the airport and a possible wet afternoon.
