After the Monumental Brasília Marathon: Pirenópolis and the Chapada
The Route: Brasília → Pirenópolis (2 nights) → Brasília → Alto Paraíso de Goiás (2 nights) → Brasília Logistics: Pirenópolis is about 155 km from Brasília, and Alto Paraíso is about 235 km. Both legs go back through the capital, so a night in a Brasília hotel in the middle is an option if the timings do not work. Marathon Month: November Duration: 4 nights
Brasília ──(155 km)──> Pirenópolis ──(155 km)──> Brasília ──(235 km)──> Alto Paraíso
This is the longest plan in the set, and the most demanding on the road. It pairs a colonial town with a plateau of waterfalls, and the middle stop in Brasília is there to stop the driving becoming the whole holiday.
November in Goiás: November is in the wet season. The Brasília normals, a mean of 21.7°C and 253.1 mm of rain, are a rough guide and not a forecast. A wet day is a reason to swap the order of your days.
Getting There
Use the Pirenópolis article for the first leg and the Chapada article for the second. The road to Pirenópolis takes around two hours in normal traffic, and the drive to Alto Paraíso takes about 3 hours 50 minutes. Check the national park status before booking the second half, because fire damage led to closures this year.
Where to Stay
- Divina Pousada in Pirenópolis is a well-reviewed option for the first two nights.
- Pousada Chales Alto da Estancia in Alto Paraíso is a good base for the second half, with a heated pool for tired legs.
If you need a night in Brasília between the legs, the race partner hotels in the Setor Hoteleiro Norte are the obvious choice.
What to Do
Spend the Pirenópolis days walking slowly, then use the Chapada days for whatever trails and waterfalls are open and suit your legs. Leave the longest hike for the last full day, not the first.
Where to Eat
Ask your hosts in each town for a restaurant close to the pousada, and plan an early dinner in smaller places.
Getting Home
Return to Brasília on the last morning. Allow a full day if you are flying from BSB, and do not book a morning departure after a long road leg.
