After the Campo Grande Marathon: Miranda and the Pantanal
The Route: Campo Grande → Miranda region → Campo Grande Logistics: About 194 km each way, the last 4 km on gravel after leaving BR-262 at Agachi. A guided day with a transfer from Campo Grande is the practical way to do it. Ask the operator for the pickup time and the day's length. Marathon Month: July Duration: Day trip

The Campo Grande Marathon starts at 05:00 on a Sunday, and by Monday morning the quadriceps will have an opinion about stairs, let alone a 388 km round trip. The sensible order is a day of rest in the city, then the Pantanal on Tuesday or Wednesday, once the legs will tolerate a car seat and a few short walks.
July in Campo Grande: The airport's figures for 2001 to 2010 give a July mean of 21.7°C, with a mean daily minimum of 16.6°C and a mean daily maximum of 28.5°C. That is a ten-year record from the airport, so check the forecast. The Pantanal is a separate region with its own conditions, and road access and water levels change through the year. July does not guarantee any particular animal sighting or an easy road.
The Day
The distance is the main fact. One operator in the region puts its base 194 km from Campo Grande, which makes the return trip about 388 km before you add any legs inside the city. That is a long day by any standard, and it is a reason to book a driver or a package that includes the transfer rather than drive yourself on tired legs.
The last 4 km from BR-262 at Agachi are gravel. A low hired car is the wrong vehicle for it, which is a further reason to book a guided transfer.
On arrival the operator describes rest areas, a museum and dietary adaptation if you ask in advance. Riding is offered but optional, and it is not a good recovery activity, so choose seated or short walking options and let the guide set the pace. Ask for the day's schedule before you book, with the pickup and return times, because the pack of activities depends on the season and the water.
Getting Home
Return to Campo Grande by the same road. For a flight, the airport is Campo Grande (CGR). Taxis wait outside arrivals at all hours, and airport buses 409 and 414 stop outside the terminal with reduced service on Sundays. Do not fly on the evening of the trip: a late return on a long road is the wrong moment to be racing a check-in desk.
