History
The Campo Grande Marathon is young. The first festival ran from 8 to 10 July 2022, produced by the Associação Desportiva Atletas de Cristo and the events company H2O Ecoturismo with support from the state sports foundation. That first full started at Shopping Bosque dos Ipês and crossed the centre and the Parque dos Poderes. Contemporary reports counted 1,115 registrations across all distances and 156 in the full, which Maicon Dieferson Gomes won in 2:50:36 and Maira Brum in 3:52:49.
The 2026 festival was advertised as the fifth and 2027 as the sixth. Between those editions the event moved its arena from Cidade do Natal to the Comper supermarket complex at Itanhangá, on Avenida Ricardo Brandão. Technical director André Milani said the move was meant to create routes with a net loss of height, and added that Campo Grande is not a flat city. Today the entry is run by the Instituto MS Mais Bonito.
The 2026 race on 5 July counted 544 registrations for the full and 5,306 across the festival. The results directory lists 418 finishers of the full. Franck Caldeira won the men's race in 2:29:22 for the second year running and Elisângela Cruz won the women's in 3:10:44. A results aggregator shows 2:29:18 and 3:10:37 for the same runners, probably a gun-time and net-time difference.
Because the route and arena changed, times from the first four editions do not compare cleanly with those of the new course. For 2027 the organiser advertises R$100,000 in total prize money for the full, restricted to elite athletes, and keeps the two-day format with a children's race and 5 km on the Saturday.
The course
The marathon starts at 05:00 on Avenida Dr. Fadel Tajher Lunes, which the municipality sometimes spells Iunes, and finishes at the festival arena at Comper Itanhangá, Avenida Ricardo Brandão 700. The two are about 4.4 km apart in a straight line, so the race is a one-way route and not a loop. The surface is asphalt on city roads.
The organiser's route article claims about 150 m of ascent and 250 m of descent over the full, a net loss of about 100 m. Those totals are the organiser's and the method behind them was not published. The chart agrees on the net figure: the course starts at about 646 m above sea level and finishes at about 543 m, with a high point of 657 m at km 1.5 and a low point of 514 m at km 19.4.
The route opens with a loop through Veraneio, around the Parque dos Poderes, then heads south-west down Avenida Afonso Pena and Avenida Ricardo Brandão into the centre by km 15. The three longest descents are km 1.5 to 3.7 (23 m, 1.0%), km 7.2 to 10.3 (71 m, 2.3%) and km 12.3 to 19.6 (55 m, 0.8%). The course reaches Amambaí and Avenida Presidente Ernesto Geisel by km 19, and a climb of 53 m over 8 km (0.7%) takes it up the Orla Morena cycle path to Avenida Duque de Caxias at km 27.
The far point is on Avenida Duque de Caxias in Santo Antônio at about km 30, 10.5 km from the start in a straight line. The return follows the same corridor, descends 45 m between km 32 and 39 on Geisel, and then climbs 21 m over the last 3 km (0.7%) through the centre to the finish on Avenida Ricardo Brandão.
Kilometre by kilometre
The start. The full and the half marathon leave together at 05:00 from Avenida Dr. Fadel Tajher Lunes, in the dark. The 10 km follows at 05:30. The start is not at the main arena, so do not walk to Comper at 04:45 and expect to find the corrals.
Km 0 to 18: the long descent. After a loop through Veraneio the route runs mostly downhill towards the south-west and the centre, losing about 120 m by km 19. The steepest stretch is km 7 to 10 along Avenida Afonso Pena, 71 m in 3.1 km. This is the fast part of the day, and the one most likely to tempt a first half that is paid for later.
Km 19 to 27: the climb. From the low point of 514 m at km 19.4 the road climbs 53 m over 8 km (0.7%) on Avenida Presidente Ernesto Geisel and the Orla Morena cycle path. It has no name and no steep pitch. It arrives when the early descent has already worked the quadriceps.
Km 27 to 33: the far point. The course holds at 556 to 566 m along Avenida Duque de Caxias, turning at about km 30 in Santo Antônio. This is the point farthest from the start, 10.5 km away in a straight line.
Km 33 to the finish. The road falls again to km 39, about 45 m on Geisel, then climbs 21 m over the last 3 km through the centre. Do not count on a free-falling finish. The arena at Comper Itanhangá is the festival base and the place to collect a bag.
Check the signs. The half marathon starts at the same time and shares part of the route. The turning points where it leaves the full were not published.
Mostly downhill towards the south-west from the start road. Hold back here.
A gradual 53 m rise over 8 km, arriving when the early descent has already worked the legs. There are no named hills.
The course holds high along Avenida Duque de Caxias and turns at about km 30, its farthest point from the start.
The road falls again, then rises 21 m in the last 3 km to the arena at Comper Itanhangá.
Course Map
The course as recorded, from Avenida Dr. Fadel Tajher Lunes south-west through the centre to Avenida Duque de Caxias and back to the arena at Comper Itanhangá. Tap a marker for details, and scrub the slider or press play to move the orange marker along the course with the elevation profile beneath it.
Pacers
Pacers are advertised for the festival, in identified shirts and with bibs marked PACE. Target times had not been announced when this page was written, so check the organiser's channels before race week.
The marathon starts on Avenida Dr. Fadel Tajher Lunes and finishes at the festival arena at Comper Itanhangá. They are about 4.4 km apart in a straight line. Plan the trip to the start separately from the trip back, and ask where your bag will be.
The marathon starts at 05:00 in July. Airport figures for 2001 to 2010 give a July mean of 21.7°C, a mean daily minimum of 16.6°C and a mean daily maximum of 28.5°C. That is a ten-year airport record, not a dawn reading for the start road, and the same table holds much colder individual days.
A light removable layer is sensible for the wait before 05:00, and a cap and sunscreen for the later kilometres, when slower runners are still on the road as the day warms. No official clothing-donation scheme was found, so give the layer to a companion or arrange storage. Do not leave clothes on the road. Check the forecast the week before, since a cold front can bring a cool morning.
Entry
Entry for 2027 opened on 1 September 2026 through Ticket Sports and is advertised to close on 30 June 2027, or earlier if capacity is reached. There is no ballot and no qualifying time for ordinary entry. The minimum age is 20 by 31 December 2027.
The opening lot priced the full marathon at R$179.90 with a basic shirt kit, against a full tariff of R$359.80. The rules add a 10% convenience charge, which puts the opening price at about R$197.89 and the full tariff at about R$395.78. Treat those as arithmetic from the published terms. The live checkout total shows what is on sale.
The 5 km plus full challenge cost R$299.80 in the opening lot against R$599.60 at the full tariff, before the charge. Two separate entries do not qualify for the third medal, so buy the challenge category. A runner who wants only the marathon can ignore it.
Senior (60 by 31 December 2027), blood-donor and student entries are 50% off the full basic-shirt tariff. This is not an extra 50% off the promotional lot. A donor must show a donation in the previous 12 months, and a student must still be eligible at race time. Concession kits must be collected in person.
The R$100,000 in total prize money for the full is for elite athletes only. Transgender runners and runners with disabilities are placed in participatory categories outside the general and age-group podiums, under the organiser's current wording.
A title transfer within Ticket Sports costs R$70 and is open until 20 June 2027, and distance or shirt changes close on 11 April 2027, with any fare difference payable. The entry page's FAQ gives 20 April 2027 as a general deadline for changes. The two do not agree, so ask before relying on either date. Refunds are promised within seven days of purchase. A private handover of a bib is not an authorised transfer.
Overseas runners should confirm that a passport is accepted at checkout and at collection, because the platform may ask for a Brazilian tax number.

Bib collection
The 2027 entry page says kit collection takes place on 2 and 3 July 2027, a Friday and a Saturday, with the place and hours to be announced. Elsewhere on the same page, lines read "3 July, Friday, 08:00 to 20:00" and "4 July, Saturday, 08:00 to 18:00". Those dates and weekdays do not match the 2027 calendar and look like leftovers from 2026. Do not plan on Sunday-morning collection, and arrive early enough to absorb a correction.
In 2026 collection ran on Friday 3 July from 08:00 to 20:00 and Saturday 4 July from 08:00 to 18:00 at the Arena Maratona at Comper Itanhangá, Avenida Ricardo Brandão. That is a guide to the likely venue, not a promise.
The basic kit lists a technical shirt, bib, chip, official bag and athlete insurance, plus a finisher medal. In 2026 you needed proof of registration and photographic ID. Proxy collection needed an adult with a copy of your ID, your receipt and signed authorisation, and concession entries had to collect in person. Ask whether the document you used to register is enough at the desk. No exhibitor list, talks or airport kit delivery were found.
Check the bib, distance, chip and shirt size before leaving the desk.
Getting to the start
Campo Grande runs on Mato Grosso do Sul time, UTC-4, one hour behind Brasília. The full and the half marathon start at 05:00 on Sunday, and the 10 km follows at 05:30. The Saturday 5 km starts at 06:00 at the arena. Check that your phone shows local time before you set an alarm.
The Sunday start is on Avenida Dr. Fadel Tajher Lunes, which the municipality spells Iunes. In 2026 the start was near Rua Salto. The municipality warned that some navigation apps label the road Avenida Desembargador Rui Garcia Dias, so save the organiser's start pin and not a guessed road name. A pre-booked driver needs a legal drop-off outside the closures and should allow for a final walk. The 2027 pen opening time has not been published.
The arena at Comper Itanhangá, Avenida Ricardo Brandão 700, is the finish, not the start. That makes baggage the key question. The 2026 rules offered free baggage from one hour before the race until 12:00, but did not say where full-marathon runners hand bags in or how they reach the finish. Ask the organiser before you rely on it.
In 2026 the municipality closed routes between 04:00 and 11:00 on Sunday and reopened them in stages after the last runner. No free start shuttle and no free municipal fare for bib holders were found. Airport buses 409 and 414 run outside the terminal, but their first city-bound services come after 05:30, reduced on Sundays, so they do not reach the start before the gun.
Ask the hotel about breakfast before 04:00. Eat what you know, and leave time for toilets and the corral entrance. After the finish, leave through the authorised exit, collect your bag and meet companions outside the restricted area.
Nutrition on course
The 2026 rules promised water in sealed cups about every 3 km and at the finish. The full marathon also had four sports-drink points and four gel points, whose kilometre positions were not published. Toilets were provided on the course. The organiser reported 17 hydration points and 52,800 water cups for the whole festival, and 15,000 salt-replacement or carbohydrate-gel units, which are festival totals and not an allowance per marathon runner.
No food menu and no personal-bottle service were found. The 2027 entry advertises recyclable cups. Carry your own gels and do not count on a particular product being at every table.
Spectating
The start and the finish are in different places, so a companion must choose. The arena at Comper Itanhangá is the practical base. It hosted the expo and the festival programme in 2026, and it is where a runner will collect a bag and meet people after the exit.
Watching the 05:00 start means the same early, legal approach as the runner, then a separate transfer to the arena. The race road is not a driving corridor. The 2026 closures used controlled crossings and reopened in stages, so a map app's travel time is no guarantee of beating a quick runner. No race spectator shuttle was found.
No kilometre map is public, so a pace-based window for a roadside point cannot be worked out. Elapsed time from 05:00 gives a rough finish range, but runners can start behind the gun or slow down, so leave a margin. Give your companion your bib number and a fallback contact. No live-tracking provider was found.
- Base at the Comper Itanhangá arena, Avenida Ricardo Brandão 700.
- Arrive by the public approach and wait outside the athlete lanes.
- Meet after the exit and bag collection.
Post-race food
The finish-area food offer for 2027 has not been published. Collect your bag and arrange a lift before heading anywhere else.
Feira Central, Rua 14 de Julho 3351, is the market where Campo Grande eats sobá, a noodle soup brought by Okinawan immigrants. It is about 2.6 km from the finish in a straight line. Its own website gives opening from 11:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. Pick a stall and check that it is serving, since the market opening does not mean every kitchen is open.
Casa do Peixe, Avenida Dr. João Rosa Pires 1030, serves fish-based Brazilian cooking. Its listing gives Sunday 11:00 to 15:00 and closed on Monday, which the restaurant should confirm.
An early finisher may need a snack before either opens. A slower runner should not book a table straight after a predicted finish time.
Where to Stay
The choice is between convenience at the start and recovery at the finish, and the two are in different places. Do not use an older Afonso Pena address as proof of a walk to either. Compare the whole door-to-gate plan, including closures, early breakfast and the return.
Carandá Bosque and Avenida Mato Grosso
Several verified hotels line this corridor. The race's tourism page names Carandá Hplus Express, at Avenida Mato Grosso 4903, which lists breakfast and a noon checkout. Deville Prime is at number 4250, about 2.6 km from the finish in a straight line, ibis budget at 5617 and Novotel at 5555. Ibis budget is the economy option, with small functional rooms, and Novotel is aimed at families.
Avenida Afonso Pena
Grand Park Hotel is at number 5282, on the shopping corridor, which suits a mixed city trip. Brumado Hotel is at number 743, central, with a 24-hour reception.
Itanhangá
Staying by the finish could suit some runners, but no hotel there was verified, so none is named.
Ask for a written race rate and an early breakfast, and arrange the start transfer yourself. The airport is Campo Grande (CGR), about 8 km from the finish in a straight line; a booking elsewhere with the same name can send you to the wrong city.
Recommended hotels
Avenida Mato Grosso 4903. Named on the race's tourism page. Lists breakfast, air-conditioning and a noon checkout. No 2027 rate or shuttle found, so ask about an early breakfast and a lift.
Avenida Mato Grosso 4250. A fuller-service hotel. No race rate or transfer was found.
Avenida Afonso Pena 5282, on the shopping corridor. Being on the same avenue as the old race venue says nothing about the walk to the current start or finish.
Avenida Mato Grosso 5617. Economy hotel with small functional rooms and air-conditioning. Its page is inconsistent on whether parking is free, so ask.
Avenida Afonso Pena 743. A central address with a 24-hour reception and air-conditioned rooms. Needs a transfer to the start. A 24-hour desk cannot rescue a missed kit-collection window.
Booking timeline
Entry has been open since 1 September 2026 and is advertised to close on 30 June 2027. R$179.90 was an opening-lot price, so check what the live checkout shows.
Before booking flights, wait for a corrected collection schedule. The entry page says 2 and 3 July and elsewhere prints 3 and 4 July with wrong weekdays. Arrive in time for a Friday or Saturday desk, and do not count on Sunday.
Decide early about changes. The rules close distance and shirt changes on 11 April and title transfers on 20 June, while the FAQ gives 20 April for changes. Ask which applies.
In the last fortnight, confirm the start pin, legal drop-off, baggage transfer, cutoff, pacer targets and traffic restrictions. Book Bonito transfers and any Pantanal lodge separately. Some lodges only take arrivals on set days, so fit the trip to the lodge. Refundable hotel terms are more useful than an unverified race rate.
See & Do
Distances are from the finish at Comper Itanhangá, in a straight line, kilometres first.
Bioparque Pantanal
The aquarium and park of the Pantanal, open Tuesday to Saturday from 08:30 to 12:00 and 13:30 to 17:30, closed on Sunday and Monday. A free reservation is required. Go before the race or on the Tuesday afterwards. A Monday visit is not possible.
Museu das Culturas Dom Bosco
Indigenous and natural-history collections at Avenida Afonso Pena 7000, in the Parque das Nações Indígenas. Open Tuesday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00 and Saturday and holidays 14:00 to 18:00, paid, with ramps and adapted toilets. It is not a Sunday or Monday option.
Feira Central
A market at Rua 14 de Julho 3351, open from 11:00 on Saturdays and Sundays and from 16:00 Wednesday to Friday, known for sobá. A short seated visit on Sunday after the race, but not on Monday.
After the Race
The marathon is on a Sunday, and the Monday after it is the first free day, when the Bioparque, the museum and most markets are shut. The Pantanal and Bonito are road journeys of 190 to 290 km from Campo Grande, so choose one and rest first. Check lodge arrival days and book Bonito activities ahead.
A guided day in the Miranda region of the southern Pantanal, reached by a 4 km gravel approach. Book it after a recovery night, because the round trip is about 388 km.
A night in the Miranda area and a reserved day at a working farm, with a boat outing, a photographic trail, lunch and a guide.
Two nights in Bonito with one pre-booked, low-intensity activity. Keep the caves, waterfalls and flotation for a day when the legs have recovered.
A lodge stay with a three-night minimum and Thursday or Sunday arrivals between May and November. A Thursday arrival after the race fits.
