Nothing about this day asks anything of legs that ran 42.195 km the morning before. The river is close, flat, and requires no transport at all; the zoo is a short bus or taxi ride away for whoever still has an afternoon left in them.
The Dee-Side Walk
The riverside path beside the Dee starts close to the Castle Drive finish and runs flat in both directions, past the Old Dee Bridge and the weir. Rowing crews and pleasure boats work the water most weekend afternoons, giving a reason to stop and stand rather than keep moving. October colour along the bank makes this a genuinely pleasant walk rather than just a recovery obligation.
Chester Zoo
One of the UK's largest zoos, a bus or taxi ride from the city centre. It suits a family day out more than a solo recovery outing, and the amount of walking involved, the site is large, is worth weighing against how the legs actually feel that afternoon. Better treated as optional than as part of the plan by default.
Where to Eat
Chester's city centre, particularly around the Rows and Watergate Street, sits within easy walking distance of the Castle Drive finish and offers the highest concentration of food options for a tired runner not wanting to travel far.
Getting Back
Everything here is either on foot from the finish or a short bus or taxi ride within Chester. No transport booking is required in advance.
