Cobh's Maritime History

Cobh, a colourful harbour town built up a steep hillside overlooking Cork Harbour, was the last port of call for the RMS Titanic before its fateful voyage, and the town's Titanic Experience Cobh museum, housed in the original White Star Line ticket office, covers this history in detail. St Colman's Cathedral, a striking neo-Gothic building dominating the town's skyline, is a further landmark worth the (admittedly uphill) walk. For flatter walking, the harbourfront promenade itself offers easy, level views across the water.

Where to eat: The seafront in Cobh has a good spread of cafés and restaurants with harbour views, a straightforward lunch stop requiring no advance planning.
