The marathon runs entirely in Brazil, and nothing in the race takes you into Argentina. A night in Puerto Iguazú is a separate trip, planned as one. Cross after a day of rest, sleep on the Argentine side, see the falls from there in the morning and come back.
September in Foz do Iguaçu: A weather provider's September averages for the Brazilian side give a daily low of 17°C and a high of 26°C, with 158 mm of rain. That is a guide to the region only. Carry a waterproof, since the walkways are wet.
Crossing
Carry the passport you travelled on, and check the entry and re-entry rules for your own nationality before you go, because they depend on your passport and your itinerary. Racing in Brazil gives you no automatic admission to Argentina. Allow time for queues at the bridge in both directions. A hotel's shuttle or a race transfer does not cross the border.
Night One: Puerto Iguazú
Stay in a hotel in Puerto Iguazú and leave your luggage there, since no public lockers are promised. Book the room before you cross. Rates and availability change, so ask the Argentine tourism office for current options.
The Argentine Falls
The Argentine park opens from 08:00 to 18:00, with the last entry at 16:00. The ecological train's last outward departure is at 15:30, though operator pages differ by a few minutes on the first train and the circuit times, so use the day's instructions. Choose a limited circuit and not every walkway, and use the train to cut the walking. The Argentine side has more paths and more steps than the short Brazilian walk.
Getting Home
Return across the bridge to Foz do Iguaçu and allow for the queue. Foz do Iguaçu airport (IGU) in Brazil is the airport for a flight home, not Iguazú airport (IGR) in Argentina. Re-enter Brazil legally and leave a margin of several hours before an international flight.
